Colborne on the wing
What do you guys think so far?
I actually kind of like it. Seems like he is lugging the puck in a lot lately and using his reach to go around players. He also looks to have a bit of chemistry with Monahan on the boards and looks to be driving to the net a bit more.
Despite his -3 last night, I think this experimènt is working.
I also think maybe this guy will keep getting better and might bè a nice piece to the rebuild.

He wasn't doing too bad as a 3rd/4th line center. I actually prefer him up the middle than on the wing. He hasn't shown much since being moved over.
In fact he's -4 in the last 5, and only has 1 assist to attribute to his being moved. I wouldn't call him going to the wing 'more successful.'
Edit: make that -3.
The guy is dynamite in the shootout though.

I believe in the Jays.

I like him better on the wing. I think he's better then getting 5 minutes a night babysitting goons but IMO he's pretty clearly not as good as Monahan, Backlund, or Stajan.
Consider how weak the depth at RW is for the Flames I think moving him is in the best interests of all parties concerned.

I find him pretty useless. Whether at centre or wing.

Agreed. I'm not a fan of his style of play. He's young and can improve but for now I don't see too many positives.

He is a fine fill in guy to play in the bottom 6. And considering he is okay at FO's that puts him as an important guy for the Flames considering the other centers they have.
I would prefer to see him at Center than wing and see if he can develop there as that seems more important a position than wing but he doesn't appear to be headed for the top 6 so wing or center doesn't matter too much.
I guess with the injuries better to have him playing up with Monahan and Street babysitting the goons than the other way around.

He has great hands & decent vision. He's occasionally able to bamboozle defenders with his puck control in close. He isn't too bad at faceoffs (he's 4th in win % among rookies who have taken over 400 faceoffs). He can be surprisingly fast when he really wants to, and he can impose himself physically in front of the net when he really wants to.
Therein lies the problem; if you combined the talent of Colborne with the drive & jam of Bouma you'd have a solid 2nd line centre. I don't know if he's afraid to play a more physical game, but I do know he needs to if he's going to consistently succeed in the big league.

I like whatever gets him more ice this season.
Then I want our strrength coach to give him a program to bulk up big time in the offseason.
I want to see what he can do at 225 or 230 lbs. Try him at center then and see if we can develop another Otto

I think the Flames should ice an actual 4 lines, instead of 3 lines and a goon squad.
The best way to develop Colborne would be to have him play at centre with 2 actual NHL wingers. Which can be done on the 4th line, as long as you put legit NHLers on that line instead of Westgarth and McGrattan.
I like McGrattan, and would like to keep him as the 13th fwd, but feel we're wasting ice time that could be used to develop players by putting him and Westgarth on the ice at the same time, on a routine basis.

I really dislike players who are big that don't use their size to an advantage. Man I wish he would be more physical.
