I might sound petty but that would go against my long time fantasy about having sex with Scarlett Johansson on 40,000,000 in 100 dollar bills.

You could still donate it afterwards but I'm not sure which charities accept "dirty money".

Sorry to hear that, hope tomorrow is better.
I like to think I would donate it all if I won big at the lottery...but I know I wouldn't.

Mostly tongue in cheek, but I still don't get giving it all away, I mean what he could do with that money for family, friends, setting up trust funds for relatives for future school, etc..

I'm sure he still has some of those same ideas for the $38.8 million he kept.
EDIT: Nevermind. Should have read closer, this is just the start.

I suppose it depends upon the person, and I can't speak to his situation, but is it possible that after much reflection he has concluded that there are places that the money would be better used, and that neither he, nor his family and friends, really needs it? He just donated $1.2 m to the Tom Bakker Cancer Centre, so it is hardly going to waste.
It's an incredible story.

Apparently a company he started sold for about $1.14B last year, and he has said as a result his family is set up and secure for life. This is just icing on the cake, and is doing this since he lost his wife to cancer.
Also this thread should be titled "Merry Crist-mas".

On further reflection, I'd be impressed if he kept the $40M and gave away the $1.1B. Sounds like this $40M is chump change to him. Not that it isn't a great gesture these days when many rich people (Gates and Buffet excluded) are only interested in adding to their fortunes. But nowhere near "giving 'til it hurts". He likely won't notice the $40M.
