Gross...and it's so random...that guy was winning the fight but with their hands and arms tied up, there's just not anything they can do to break their fall... Is it just me or is this becoming more common??

Is it just me or does it also look like the Dubuque player (in red) took a punch right before his head hit the ice? At about 0:11 it looks like the Cedar Rapid's player took a swing at the Dubuque player before his head hits the ice. Hard to tell if it connected but if it did, that would just add to the force of his head hitting the ice.

perfect timing for the growing fight debate
poor kid, i feel bad for not only the physical injuries he sustained, but also for the sudden notoriety he's no doubt about to have regarding an issue much larger than himself.

I think NHL fighting is more organized. Players have respect for each other. There are no punches after the fact etc.. The Parros thing was a freak accident.

These guys fighting in these leagues don't really know what they're doing. It would be like putting me and one of you in an MMA ring. MMA is the safest thing there is but amateurs would really get hurt.

I'm guessing it's just the increase of omnipresent social media combined with the increased interest in the issue that's bringing out a lot of cases that would normally be forgotten. Most people don't have a clue what the USHL even is.

Just a matter of time before fighting gets banned from the NHL. I just hope it doesn't take a player death to make it happen.

I used to love fighting, but now I just don't see the point. People take a bunch of men chasing a piece of rubber around a sheet of ice way too seriously. Winning the Stanley Cup isn't worth dying for.

Tell that to some of these players. Some will tell you it is worth dying for.

If that's true then their priorities are totally out of whack. Glory is temporary, head shots last forever. (to turn a well known phrase)

Seriously, if people understood the physical damage they are doing to their nervous system..the system that controls and maintains all function in their body..they wouldn't be so glib with their responses in regards to concussions and head injuries. This is a problem with a cultural mindset within a sport, and the sooner it changes the better. I enjoy fighting for my personal excitement, but when I see stuff like that happen I feel like I can get excited enough by slick passes, goals, big saves, and hits (as long as they don't make the head the principle point of contact ).

Like it or not, at some point fighting is going the way of the do-do bird.

hard to watch but even harder to not get mad and annoyed with both the cow bell and that female asking "did he knock him out, did he knock him out" You can tell the guy was hurt really bad yet people were just going nuts. I don't think I've seen an NHL game where a guy gets hurt bad and people still cheer and go nuts. I do agree that the NHL seems more organized on some aspects. I think the the injurty is horrible but the way the fans react is disgusting.
