Default Where do you find your local entertainment options?

I'm newly on the board of a local performing arts group and helping out with marketing our upcoming shows. We have a good core of supporters after two years in existence but are always trying to expand our audience. We're trying lots of avenues - media, social media, newsletters, websites, posters, handouts, street performances, etc. It's hard to tell which of these have the most impact.

I'm interested to know where CP goes to find out about stuff going on in the city. Do you have a go to site or publication? What gets your attention? If you have something to promote what do you find works best?

All input welcome.

My favorite massage place that I've loved for a long time closed. Like out of nowhere... I too am looking for new and exciting places to hang out.

FFWD, Swerve, and Sun/Herald spot-pieces are usually the best places to find stuff. It used to be easier to just go down 17th Ave and goto the show that had the most badass poster, but the signage laws enacted ~10 years ago really kyboshed that, and the giant posterboard space the city put up has just caused staple wars between promoters/bands/venues.

Facebook and Twitter. By following bands, events, venues and restaurants that I like, I get notices about stuff happening in the city every day.

FFWD is great. I have found stuff that I liked, that I didn't think I would originally be into, because of that mag. As well as pretty much everything I was looking for.

I used to be so much more hooked into things which you are describing than I am now. If I remember my past, I think once you go to some shows, spend some time downtown, you see ideas for other shows and events at the places you go to for the first ones. And you hear from word of mouth. You check out those bulletin boards downtown, see stuff in the windows, etc.

Even if your performances aren't downtown, downtown is probably a good place to advertise it as that's the kind of place people who want to check out new things go. So they'll see it.

Facebook does work, but often you just get the same stuff from the same circle. Finding new stuff can be hard. Course I'm not really a Facebook guy, so I might be a little biased, but that's how I remember it.
