Flames Conroy plays in Penticton Alumni Game

i didn't really know where to put this so i thought i'd throw it in it's own thread

today at the young stars tournament was an alumni game. there was a bunch of old timer canucks (smyl, ronning, babych, adams, etc.) playing on one team and the other team was a mix of local penticton guys (rcmp/fire/etc.) along with some guys with a little more experience.... like the flames very own craig conroy!!

conny had a rough game - i'm pretty sure he was under 50% on face offs, he spent a bunch of time horizontally on the ice and i think he was a -1 on the day.... but in true conroy fashion he was smiling the entire time!

i bumped into conny later this evening and was giving him a hard time about his game. the guys that were with him asked, 'hey conny, is he (referring to me) chirping you?' conny replies with a grin, 'yea!' the guys look at me and say, "that's awesome!" ha! ha!

onto some pics....

Awesome. Thanks for posting. Conroy said on the radio he had a hard time rounding up his equipment at home. Maybe he didn't have time for a sharpening.

And what is with the see through mesh on the back of the socks? Weird. That also could deserve chirping

What a great piece to have art of the team... I can't think of anyone who deserved to have his name on that cup in '04 more than contoy

Conny breathes this enthusiasm into the team still even as an AGM.

He always has had this influence on everyone...the fans, media, teammates and management.

Were lucky to have him and now with Brain Burke around I certainly hope he is being groomed to play somewhat a much bigger role in the future of the Flames management/hockey ops

Speaking of Conroy! I was at the game last night in Penticton as well( sure was fun watching Edmonton get spanked by Winnipeg,) and my buddy and I saw Conroy up in the management box. We shouted his name and he gave us a wave. Later on, we were walking to grab a beer when I noticed a couple of the Sutter brothers talking with some event staff. I went up to them and asked if Conroy would be down soon. He turned to us and asked us if we wanted to go up and meet him! So we went up there and got to talk with him for about 20 minutes! It was really cool, I was talking to him about his new role in Abby this year, last years trades, 2004 cup run, Kipper retiring(he mentioned that he's retiring for sure, but he's mad he hasn't told them officially yet haha,) and hockey in general. Really genuine guy, it was awesome how long he actually chatted for. He signed a puck for me as well! Now back home to Calgary!

i'm surprised it was ONLY 20 minutes - conny LOVES to talk... and really loves to talk to fans. i first met him at the previous young stars tourney. it was myself and another guy and we saw conny & lowry walking to the soec so went went to say hi. my buddy called some other friends that were on their way (they were just outside of penticton). they said, 'stall him!!!'. i think all we said was, "hey conny, how's it going?" well, lowry had given up waiting for conny and our other friends arrived with lots of time to spare to meet & chat with him too.

he's such a nice and personable guy... and soooo easy to talk to. the flames are lucky to have a guy like him in the organization
