Shanahan turns down the Flames
per Millions
Roger Millions @RogMillions 31s Brendan Shanahan told me he will NOT be coming to Cgy to join #Flames org. He advised Murray Edwards he will stay on with the NHL
Roger Millions @RogMillions 9s Shanahan appreciates the interest from #Flames, but elected to decline. Shanahan says #Flames have talked to many a number of people.
Roger Millions @RogMillions 21s Shanahan adds he feels for the City of Calgary right now. He was honored to visit and discuss joining #Flames but has bowed out.

Not surprised. After reading an interview with KK it sounded like the job was no more than a "sounding board' type position. KK said he would not give up any power or move on to look after the arena.

Meh, when all is said and done Brian Burke will be Pres of hockey Ops and GM. Just watch. His hate for K-Lowe and the greasy bunch is strong. No better place to take it to them than in Calgary.

I really just want to see some changes. I'm more worried about who we're going to draft, which FAs we're going to pay, and who we're going to trade for than any fan should.

Not surprising. This organization is just not one that many players nor management people will want to be involved with for now. Basically we have the same challenges as Edmonton, no one wants to be here unless they have limited options elsewhere.

Pure speculation on my part, but I would guess that the stumbling block for Shanny would have been that he wasn't going to be president (KK still there)
Problem for the Flames would have been that he doesn't have the experience/resume to be made president

I think this should act as a serious wakeup call to the Flames org. And the fans.
If ownership/King are the reason he declined, the person coming in is just someone to pull the wool over the fans eyes. That is absolutely unacceptable and I am quickly losing faith in this organizations front office and brass.
If they screwup this draft, I may be forced to take some serious time away from the Club.

I agree with the bolded part but it does not sound like KK is going to give up his spot for anybody. Shanny at least had some "clout". The position will probably be filled with someone like Shanny ( not much experience) but not much "clout". I will not be surprised if someone like Nieuwendyk gets the position. Granted Joe was a GM. A horible GM though.
I'm not mad that Shanny did not take the job, i am more mad that ownership does not see that they need a major change in management and that they think a "sounding board" postion is the way to go.
