Default Reliable Christmas Skiing

I'm planning a ski trip at Christmas with my sister. We're considering any place between here and Vancouver (where she lives). Normally I'd be thinking Fernie or Whistler but my brother-in-law doesn't want to commit because nowhere has reliable snow at that time of year in his opinion.

Any suggestions for places that have good snow more often than not that time of year?

I'd say Fernie and whitefish are both pretty safe bets.

Revelstoke might be an option. I've never been prior to January but they usually have a pretty good annual snowfall.

Have you looked further north? Powder King perhaps?

I like Powder King as a local hill with lots of great hiking and snow. They always have a late open but that is due more to demand than snowfall.

It is a pretty hefty drive for both parties though.

Fernie and Kimberley are pretty safe bets IMO. Reasonable drive is a plus.

edit: Reasonable drive from Calgary that is.

Castle mountain usually has a lot of snow by then. The last 2 seasons I've been up there around christmas time. The weather guys predicted an early winter this year and that it would be a good year for skiers.

This, and it is half way between Calgary and Vancouver. You also have a good fallback plan or second choice in the area with Whitewater near Nelson.

Big White has been great the last few seasons. Plus you'd both have direct flights to Kelowna if you don't want to drive.

I haven't been skiing for a couple of years now but is Fernie really not reliable around Christmas time?

It always was when I was going from say 95-2005.

You guys go ahead and enjoy spending %50 MORE money, at hills with %50 LESS snow.

I'll be at Mount Baker.
