Wheatland Trail is a main drive that runs south/north right through town. One of the news blurbs I just read said that the home is located right on Wheatland Trail. Here's a sort of idea where they have the main road blocked off - am hearing now that they have some of those side roads blocked now as well.

The suspect in an armed standoff which begain early Sunday in the town of Strathmore has ended peacefully with the suspect surrendering himself to police.

According to RCMP Sgt. Patricia Neely, the situation began at approximately 1:30 a.m. when officers responded to a home as part of a criminal investigation. RCMP members secured a perimeter around the Strathmore residence after an armed male barricaded himself within the home.

A female victim, who neighbours believe to be the suspect's girlfriend, is cooperating with police at the Strathmore RCMP detachment. The Emergency Response Team responded to the scene and a negotiator attempted to arrange the suspect's peaceful surrender by phone.

Just before 3:00 p.m., the man exited the home. Officers handcuffed the suspect and transported him from the scene in a police car.
