Default Flames have made an offer to Steve Begin

Renaud Lavoie ‏@RenLavoieRDS 14s

Steve Bégin étudie une offre des Flames présentement mais veut attendre de voir si d'autres équipes vont se manifester. #RDS

for anglophones:
says Begin is considering an offer from the Flames but wants to see if other teams are interested

Sounds like it's a two way deal, otherwise why would Begin even consider other options that probably don't exist.

I hope other teams are interested.

I can't believe Begin has an offer on the table and isn't scooping it up ASAP.

God jesus please no. I'll never forget how he singlehandedly ruined the Flames chance at a higher draft pick by deciding to randomly score 2 goals in a game late in the season. Based on that alone he shouldn't be brought back.

May as well throw some pity offers out to Amonte and Friesen while we are at it.

Begin is dreaming if he thinks he can get a one way contract from anybody. He might want to look at the list of UFA"S that are going to have to sign well below what they wanted just to stay in the NHL.

Lets hope this is an ahl deal as a playing assistant coach. Past that wtf is Feaster thinking? Surely there are upgrades available at the NHL level.

I'm hoping this is just one of those rumours that an agent puts out there to create interest.

Even if we wanted a cheap character 4th liner, there are better free agents out there still.

Wtf. Like seriously? Why?

I'd rather have Bouma or even Nemisz take his place. Great character player but totally useless and taking opportunities away from younger players.

Unless Feaster is deliberately gunning for 1st overall I don't see the point.

You need quality people around a team full of younger players, I like Begin. Nothing but glowing reviews for his attitude and personality in the room.

If it's low dollars, and a two way deal, then why not have the guy in the fold?

The Oilers went too young and paid for it, so far the Flames are building up a secondary core which I think is smart. the other part of the puzzle is veteran guys that can iron out the wrinkles for young players.

Why not go after a guy like Brendan Morrow for character as he can play a bigger role with the team? Sure he will cost more in salary but the Flames have room. Begin may be a great guy but he can only do so much on the 4th line and in the press box. I like the idea of bringing in a veteran leader or two but why not guys that can play and contribute like a Gelinas type player?

I agree that you need veterans to play with youngsters, but the flames at this point do not have many spots for youngsters. Right now i don't see a difference from years past other than the veterans are younger.

I don't mind if Feaster is offering him a 2 way contract. I am scared that Hartely who likes veterans over youngsters, would pick Begin over someone like Bouma if their play was the same in camp.

I like Begin too, and I hope another team picks him up.

I just think at this time, it should be about farming assets. There has to be players with great attitudes and personalities that need opportunities AND have more long term value to this team.

I see a guy like Colby Armstrong is still sitting there and could probably fill in a similar roll with this team. From all accounts I have heard, he is a great "dressing room" guy. He would also likely have for value as a movable asset.
