Default Stupid Things You Believed as a Kid

The first news story thread made me think of this.

Any dumb things you used to believe as a kid?

I remember thinking Paris and the Eiffel tower were in Quebec.

I understood that Disney movies were animated but I believed that the "real" characters lived at Disneyland.

If you swallowed an apple, orange, fruit seed etc...that a tree would grow in your stomach.

There is/was some large ball thing out by Balzac. I always thought it was Epcot Center and couldn't understand why my parents never took me there.

Another one ... March Madness ... for about a decade I thought that UConn was Yukon. Couldn't believe that such a small Canadian territory was able to compete with the big US schools.

I had my friends and myself convinced that people rollerbladed on the roof of the saddledome. Don't know where I got that genius idea from though.

I wasn't sure how car signal lights worked, so I just assumed that either the car was smart enough to just automatically do it or it was somehow linked to the pedals.

Santa obviously. Somehow we believe that an old, out of shape man could possibly find enough time to get down the chimney of every single house on the planet, and that reindeers who don't actually fly could somehow take him everywhere at warp speed. Maybe we all did know it was bull#### early on, but free presents are free presents.

I couldn't understand why people would want to smoke a bowl. So you fill a bowl with drugs and light it all on fire? And like the whole room fills with smoke? Or you stand over the bowl?

On that vein, a bunch of us though that smoking grass was literally smoking grass. So, we'd pick a bunch of long stalks of prairie grass (this is rural SK) and smoke them, literally resulting in nothing for us.

I also thought that gun powder was just finely crushed rocks, so I'd spend hours carefully crushing rocks with hammers into a fine powder. Never occurred to me that actually smashing gun powder with a hammer might not be the best idea, so my theory made basically no sense.

This thread is making me realize how stupid I was, and maybe still am. Thanks OP.

The Black and White Tubular road markers you see on the Highway were big matches that you light if you had car trouble at night.

I swear we've had this topic before. Regardless...

My brother (9 years my senior) took all my toys out of my sandbox, raked it flat, then made a series of trenches. He placed all sorts of army men and tanks every where, then filled the trenches with a fluid I couldn't identify.

"What's that?"
"Fruit punch"
"Oh"

Then he tossed a match in and the whole sandbox caught on fire and we watched the army men melt.

I was probably 13 before I realized that he was lying and fruit punch isn't flammable.
