Default Becoming a Supple Leopard

From the guy that brings us the best blog in the fitness world, MobilityWOD, this book is simply the best piece of fitness literature since the crazy Russians presented us with Smolov Cycle.

http://www.amazon.ca/Becoming-Supple...supple+leopard

I was given the opprotunity for a sneak peak, and this book is simply amazing.

Anyone who has followed MobilityWOD will know what I'm talking about. Kelly is the absolute best source when it comes to ANY kind of pain/soreness problem.

Not to mention he is in my opinion the best weightlifting coach on the planet, and has personally helped me tweak my squatting form to help me go from a 320# squat to a 385# squat in 4 weeks using the Smolov Base Cycle.

Must, must, must read if you're into ANY kind of fitness program.

I haven't seen a lot of his stuff, but from what I have seen he seems to just be using a lot of buzz words for teaching basic physiotherapy principles to a "heavier" crowd.

I just watched one of his videos on setting up for a clean & jerk, where he sort of eludes to the concept of the McGill brace but never actually says anything worthwhile.

I guess 90% of it any product is marketing.

Your opinion is hardly surprising given your recent posts in fitness threads.

Heh, my longest running gf often said I looked like a cat when I was sleeping.

Not entirely sure what she meant by that, but it seemed like a compliment.

I haven't read it, but the premise is teaching proper movement to avoid injury etc. and repair damage done, which I assume is based in study of human physiology and medical science.

I'm sure there is good advice here. I always like to know what the advice is based on. Many fitness gurus lack the backing of good research.

I hear you, from a quick look at his site it seems to be a lot of stuff based upon correcting posture and movements to repair the impact of things like sitting at a desk all day, which is something a lot of us could use. He does have a doctorate of physical therapy so the education is there.

What does any of this have to do with Leopards?

His theory is that leopards never have to stretch out, limber out or fix muscle issues.

They are ready to attack in an instant. Obviously there is a huge difference between leopards and humans, but as most people with active lifestyles can attest too, they don't suffer from the chronic muscle/joint issues that people with sedentary lifestyles suffer from.

There is a reason why sitting all day long could possibly be worse for your body than smoking is.

That's because they are leopards.

Reputation? He is practically a celebrity in the fitness world these days. At least to those of us who aren't still stuck on the ridiculous notion that 30-45 min cardio per day is the way to go.

Other than that, like Valo said, he does have the doctorate degree in physical therapy.

I think you mean "I haven't tried everything, but this worked pretty good for me"...this review is a little over the top. Ditto for smolov.

The idea that people should find something that works for them is great - whether from a website, forums, "professional", but in this day and age skepticism (asking questions like troutman) is key to ensuring you're getting the best information. It's so easy to latch onto someone's opinion or a certain culture.

What sorts of things have you taken from mobility WOD that you use / have used? I'm interested in hearing how he's helped you since I haven't had a chance to go through a ton of his stuff.

All else aside, that's a whack theory. Leopards do a lot of stretching, for one. For two, a lot of the stress on our bodies and muscles comes from being bipeds, which, so far as I know, leopards are not.

It's like making yourself more walrus-like to combat depression, because walruses never get depressed. "Embrace your inner walrus!"

The interesting part about this thread is that the title was so nonsensical it took me 8 hours to actually break down and click to find out what it was about.
