Default The Next Captain

Barring a surprise return in the off-season, the Calgary Flames will have a new Captain for the first time in a decade going into the 2013-14 season.

With the youth movement, we'll either see one of two things. 1) A veteran player holds the C in the short term until our youth matures. 2) A young player is pegged for the leadership role and will hold onto the captaincy long term.

Here's my potential list of the next Captain of the Calgary Flames

-Mark Giordano
-Mike Cammalleri
-Mikeal Backlund
-TJ Brodie
-Curtis Glencross
-Cory Sarich (if he re-signs)

It'll probably be Gio,but I'd rather see Cammalleri wear the C or Tanguay.

I'd like it to be Cammi, and I'd like to see Tanguay move on.

Do we have to name a captain next season? I would rather somebody naturally step up and prove themselves.

In honesty, I think next season they should go with

Mike Cammalleri - A
Mark Giordano - A
Mikael Backlund (Home) - A
Curtis Glencross (Away) - A

The year after that, 2014-2015 season:
Mikael Backlund - C
Mark Giordano - A
Curtis Glencross (Home) - A
TJ Brodie (Away) - A

I've always hated the notion that a team has to have a C. I vote for what they are doing now with the A's until someone steps up and is clearly demonstrating that they are leading this team in a proper direction.

I can really see Brodie doing this as he matures more but again, it should be earned.

No 'C' should be given out until there is someone worthy unless were going back to the Todd Simpson and Dave Lowry days.

Hard to follow up a guy like Iggy. I think Brodie should get it if he keeps this play up through this year and next year.

Cammy here. Floated a lot for the first part of the season but his drive, training and over all mentality is great. Plus it would be nice to keep him around long term in case they make the playoffs in the next few years. The guy knows how to light it up and knows what it takes to go deep on a cup run. Maybe his playoff performance was a one off but I would wager it wasn't.
