Steve Tambellini can’t keep firing the coach. It’s his turn to take the bullet.

Last year the Oilers were 32-40-10 for 74 points after the full 82-game schedule. That’s .451. This year they’re 16-18-7 for 39 points in 41 games. That’s .476.

Last year the Oilers were 22nd at five-on-five hockey at 0.91. This year they’re 27th at 0.81.

Last year they were third on the power play at 20.6%. This year they’re fifth at 21.8%.

Last year the Oilers were 14th on penalty killing at 82.4%. This year they’re ninth at 83.8.

Last year Edmonton was 27th on face-offs at 47.7%. This year they’re 30th at 46.1.

It’s the same with almost all the stats.

No significant improvement.

I suspect Tambo's time is up. I've said it for years - until Lowe's keys to the building are taken away this organization isn't going anywhere. If history is any predictor, I suspect MacT or Howson take over. Uggh. Howson's record speaks for itself and MacT is likeable enough but put the Old Boys Club out to pasture already.

When Jones wrote that column as he did yesterday, it was likely with the knowledge that the axe was going to fall today. He is as inside with that team as anyone in any city is with theirs. In fact i wouldnt be surprised if Lowe called him up and stated categorically that this was what was going to happen.....as that media/management relationship is unlike anywhere else in pro sports.

I suspect Tambellini is packing up his office right now.

So Terry Jones is running the Oilers? Pretty weak to fire your GM a day after a past his prime newspaper hack writes a column. Jones isn't much different than any Kool-aid drinking Oilers fan in that he thinks firing the GM is going to make a difference when the real problem is the guy above him. Tambo deserves to be fired but it should be both he and Lowe receiving pink slips as firing Tambo alone is akin to Feaster being fired and King remaining in his role.

The fact that their special teams are so good is surprising and but they are just so bad 5 v 5.

I hope the new GM fires the coaching staff because I think the coaches are actually good, you can tell from the Special teams stats. They just don't have the horses 5 on 5.
