I've read a few press releases saying that since it's 07/11, that 7-11s in the States are giving away free Slurpees. Anyone know if they are doing this today in Canada? I'm sure it's the tiny Yellow Cup. Regardless on size, I could sure go for a Slurpee today!

slurpee syrup is free for 7-11 anyway, they just make the call and the guy shows up from pepsi / coke.

i've heard / known of more than one scam in small town stores where the cashiers just pocket the slurpee money, and call the guy themselves.

good idea, this promotion, it only costs 7-11 paper cups and it gets people into their stores, maybe.

not sure where you heard that, but it sounds like bs. Coke/Pepsi just gives away their syrup?

I know that generally per slurpee the cup is more expensive than the syrup...and they make a huge profit on every cup...but it just doesn't sound right that the syrup costs them nothing at all.

It was that way with ICEYs in KMart back when they had them. The cup was all the stores paid for, the syrup was free.

They had this in Canada a couple of years ago. I remember being in a Maple Ridge 7/11 and getting one for free.

Slurpee Syrup isn't free but it's rather cheap because you pay about $25 for a 20 llitre bag in a box and you get about 100 litres out of it. They do this promotion almost every year and make up some excuse to do it, it's basically aimed at getting people into the store to get the free slurpee then hope they buy something, it was also bassed on limited quantities of cups. They sent every store in the city 1000 cups and starting at 9am you were supposed to give them away until they were gone.

it's not all paper cups mostly plastic now, and if the Syrup was free 7-Eleven would make a heckuva lot more money than they do, on average the store I work at we order atleast 40 bibs a weeek at $25 a shot it ain't cheap, but when you consider cups cost like 19cents each it works out pretty good

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree Gravitykillr, i've known more than one 7-11 employee that stated free syrup as a bald fact.

as well as a video store in lillooet, whatever that may be worth...

well Looger as a 7-Eleven employee who deals with Vendors and Invoices I can gurantee you that nothing comes for Free infact 7-Eleven has even started writing up employee's and firing some employee's for taking free things from companies such as Pepsi and Coke, the free Slurpee day is more about getting people into the store Syrup is still paid for but as I stated in other messages the price is basically null and void by the fact that what you pay for the bib and what you charge for the slurpee means nothing, do the math $25 for a bib and you get 100 litres out of it amounts to very little in the way of overall cost. I don't know where the employee's stand that you know within 7-Eleven and what they know about the operations of a store, but the saying "Nothing In Life Is Free" is very true in this particular business within this particular company

gotcha - sort of.

what you're saying basically is that 7-11 picks up the distribution fees like containers and maybe shipping costs, but not _exactly_ the syrup.

In the end yeah basically, It's not totally free because you are paying for it but with how the machines mix the syrup the cost amount to so little. I must say though with the new Crystal Light slurpee our operation costs are probably going throught the roof. It has to be the biggest mistake of a slurpee flavor ever, it doesn't contain any sugar which is great if your diabetic or on a diet and don't want the sugar or whatever reason it's a healthier version of slurpee but we haven't been able to keep the machine that it runs in up for more than a week at a time without it breaking such a pain.
