Flames Live Chat with Craig Simpson

I'm not sure how much of a Flames insider he is, but maybe worth a listen. I won't be able to.

On right now actually, but not an audio chat. Just text.

Once reading him saying JBO will be a buyout candidate I realized I shouldn't waste anymore of my time.

Yeah, or Jordan as well as the poll sayingthat 43% think Giordano is untouchable and that Wideman in overpaid. They haven't watched a Flames game all season.

He is Jaromes brother in law, so he may have some insight to how things are in the locker room.

Simpson is a friend of Kara's family - not related.

Why, it was a legit statement.

One good start to the year doesn't negate the fact that he had 3 previously horrible years with a horrible contract. It's this logic that has given the Flames the reputation of handing out bloated contracts and vastly overpaying players.

I actually think Simpson has a decent opinion on things, it's nice to hear what other media have to say when they can discuss it rather than a quick little 2 minute blurb on HNIC

Yes. It was a legitimately stupid statement.

Simpson's view of the Flames is somewhat pessimistic, but not totally out of line of what a lot of people around here say. He is firmly in re-build mode for the Flames. He said the Flames will have trouble luring free agents (and put them up there with Edmonton and Winnipeg in that regard). He also said that there are too many "non-hockey" people trying to run things. He also eluded to the fact that the Flames have talent, but the problem is that we have big holes (as opposed to the late 90s when we simply had no talent).

The only thing I really disagree with is that free agents will avoid Calgary. I don't think they will be at the top of the list for most, but I don't see Calgary at the bottom of the list either.

I swear I heard him mention it during a game one time, and he commented on the family dinners being fun because of it. I drink during games, couldve heard it wrong.

LOL

3 horrible years would indicate that he is Redden territory. Bouw didn't score the 40+ pts the Flames wanted but he still played some of the hardest minutes of any Dman in the league while contributing 25+ pts every year. Sure he is overpaid but a buyout candidate? Get real

Well as long as you think so it must be correct. Up until this year any time a potential buy out was brought up on this board, and around the league regarding the Flames, it was Bouwmeesters name that came up.

Wasn't Craig married to Jarome's wife's cousin before he (Craig) divorced her to marry Jamie Sale.

EDIT: "Even with the built-in hatred of the Flames and the bitter rivalry of Calgary and Edmonton, I have been a huge fan of Jarome Iginla. You see, that meeting wasn’t just by chance or coincidence, our wives are first cousins so you can imagine how the Kirkland Family reunions have taken on a whole new level of competition. "

I'm convinced that Bouwmeester was doing exactly what Sutter wanted him to do. We didn't need a $6.7 million defenseman to do that, but that wasn't Bouwmeester's fault.

Well just because a bunch of people underrated Bouwmeester for the last couple years does not mean that he was ever in serious contention for a buyout. Bouwmeester was cool to diss even though he's been our best defenseman.

Given his start to this season anybody suggesting he would be a buyout candidate is an idiot. He's been one of our best players and likely has some of the highest trade value out of all of our players.

I have no problem with his general view that the Flames should blow it up (certainly wasn't surprised by that), but I was frankly shocked at how uninformed he was with respect to current information.

I got the impression from his comments that the only times he has seen the Flames this year is when they play the Oilers - and that there is no one on the team that he actually speaks to (despite the facts about Iginla as mentioned above). For clarity, not saying he doesn't, I'm saying it sounded like he doesn't.

I don't argue this one bit. Bouwmeester has upped his play dramatically but to many media around the league, the same media that had the Oilers ranked third in the league, the Bouwmeester of the past three years was an underachieving player with a bad contract to boot, they still possibly see him that way.

Simpson put up nice numbers in the NHL and is bonin' Jamie Sale on the regular, but other than that...

No denying Bouw was not living up to his contract. MacKenize said he was playing the best hockey of his career last night and would command a tremendous return for Calgary to move him.

I don't doubt his value was low but most pro scouts could see he was being horribly mis-used by Sutter.
