Sound City has become one of my favorite music related docs of all time. Got a hold of a digital copy a few weeks ago and have watched it 3 times so far, buying the BluRay tomorrow, was released last week. Any music fan will like it any any musician will absolutely love it. I lost interest in Foo Fighters recently but realized all over again how much of a badass Dave Grohl is watching him haul that Neve console into his studio and putting that project together.

normally, after hearing a speech like that, I'd say stuff like "awesome", "great", "fantastic" ... but it's just Dave Grohl being Dave Grohl. No surprise here, the man is simply awesome.
I read about this. Thanks for posting it. I watched it last night. The man is a musical genius as anyone who listens to music should know. I also just watched Sound City finally. I did not realize the talent that passed through that studio since the 70's. Real musicians. Pretty awesome!

Maybe Grohl follows Mould a little too much for trout's taste.

"I grew up with The Beatles, I loved Led Zeppelin, I ####ing loved the Bad Brains and punk rock. But when it comes to guitar playing and song structure, I think that Husker Du might be my biggest songwriting influence.
I was a huge Husker Du fan, and obviously Bob Mould's music has influenced the way I write music and the way I play guitar. A lot of what I do comes from Bob. I've name-checked Husker Du songs lyrically. Like in Times Like These it says 'I'm a new day rising'. Which is one of my favourite Husker Du records.
I had this song that I thought might sound cool if he sand with me on it, call and response, so I texted him and said 'Hey, do you want to come down?' And he did. We weren't really sure what we were going to do. I watched him play guitar and as I watched him do it I realised that I owe more to Bob Mould than to maybe any other musician. There's specific things that he does that I learned from him, not from anyone else."

Personally, I don't think he's a musical genius at all - he is, though, the epitomy of hard work and dedication to making music - when he talks about playing, and sounding like crap, and continuing doing it anyways, he's speaking from experience, and that's something I find very appealing as someone who's played a couple crude chords and trying to get better
