Theo Fleury's former team and management all quit after team purchase
The Belfast Giants were purchased by a pedophile.

Major props to all of them.

This really has nothing to do with Fleury, except that he once played there.
It sounded like Fleury was being called a pedophile in the OP.

Only if you really wanted it to sound that way. I certainly understood what OP was saying without such confusion.
At any rate, I expect the EIHL will be adjusting its vetting process after this.

Maybe he made a one-time mistake. I would have to get more details on the incident, before passing judgement.

He had sex with a girl who was under 16. What other details could you need to pass judgement?
Good for the team and the arena's owner.

Well, you need to know how old he was when the incident took place, in some parts of the states a guy aged 17 years + 1 day having sex with a 15 year old +364 days is a rape.
But it appears he was 30 years old when he was tried, so that's probably not the case.

I'm a liberal as it comes to these sort of issues, and even if the girl was 15, this happened in 2003 when he was 30 years old. No excuse.

A one time mistake? Are you really serious? He was obviously convicted so what more information do you need?
And besides, pedophiles are almost always repeat offenders. Good for the management team. Your post is embarrassing.

I don't know this guy's situation, nor am I defending him, but Florida's really tough, and at times unfair, on sexual offenders cases. Florida stats are really skewed in terms of # of convictions compared to other states, and not because there's more offenders there. They seem to convict a lot more harshly on any sex crime.
Good friend of mine that lives down there pretty much had his life ruined. He was 30 at the time, met a girl at a bar (21+), started dating her, and a month later found out she lied about her age and was actually 17. He broke it off, she got mad, told her dad, and they pressed charges. He was convicted, now he's a sexual offender, lost his job, list goes on. Pretty brutal for a one time mistake because the girl lied.

Props to the company that owns the arena too, it looks like it was them that got this done.

Wow! Kudos to every single one of the players and management. That's one giant collective message.
One of my favourite stories of the year for sure.

Fleury was sexually abused for 2 years by his coach in junior hockey. So yes, it does have something to do with him.

Not really, since his connection to this story is that he played part of a season for the team 7 years ago.
