Looked accidental to me. A fine is probably acceptable.

When you pay a player 4 million a year, then take 10k away, what is he supposed to learn? Honestly?

100k will stun someone. I think Bourque lost that when he was suspended for the hit in Washington. Hasn't had a problem since.

I think that is pretty good chuck of cash for what he did.
since when is 10k pocket change? he may make 4m a year, but when hockey is over its not like he is gonna just be able to slide into a 100k+ job until retirement. he is pretty much making all the money he'll have for the rest of his life while playing in the show.

Sounds about right. I don't think it was a suspendable offense especially given Begin's MMA takedown maneuver in the same game goes unpunished.

I'm fine with that decision, but i would be fine with no fine also. The only decision i would not agree with is if he was given a suspension given his past history which is not being dirty player. Not crossing the line.
Gio is an honest competitor.

4 million a year is what he's making from the NHL. Nevermind sponsors. And commercials. After he retires, he could look at jobs as an NHL analyst/commentator, or in any other league. Lots of positions hockey-wise. Not to mention the career his wife has, whatever it is. Not saying it's like absolutely no money to him, but seriously, you're going to have to take a lot more away then that for them to teach someone an actual lesson.
My objection to the cost is more to how the NHL deals with it in general, not just this specific incident, because I know Gio doesn't do stuff like this frequently, if ever.

For those of us who play hockey, we know that was a dirty play. Glad to see the league did something, even if they went pretty easy on Gio.

There are not that many analyst/commentator positions for Giordano to have a realistic shot at one unless he has some real talent in the field. I do agree with you that it is not enough of a fine though. I think a game suspension would be better because he would hear the disappointment from his fans, teammates and coaches.

I think Giordano was upset at the cheap shot Morrow took at him, and took it out a bit rough on the next guy he could line up. No excuse, but you could see the frustration.
IMO, Morrow's play earlier in the game on Giordano was more dirty, and with more intent. Basically hitting a defenseless player, one who was being hooked as he came around the back of the net (which was the penalty) and thus held up/immobilized by his teammate, holding him in the "trolley tracks" just coming around the net.
Luckily Giordano turned in time to see and ducked, and took 1/3 of the hit that Morrow was intending, taking a run at him high as he did.

Thought I'd post this:
52.1 Slew-footing - Slew-footing is the act of a player or goalkeeper using his leg or foot to knock or kick an opponent’s feet from under him, or pushes an opponent’s upper body backward with an arm or elbow, and at the same time with a forward motion of his leg, knocks or kicks the opponent’s feet from under him, causing him to fall violently to the ice.
52.2 Match Penalty - Any player who is guilty of slew-footing shall be assessed a match penalty.
52.3 Fines and Suspensions - There are no specified fines or suspensions for slew-footing, however, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).
Giordano SHOULD have been booted from the game. Kinda wish he had been honestly. Wasn't playing too well.

Bob McKenzie tweeted about why the fine amounts are what they have been this year.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
For those asking why Setoguchi fined an odd number ($8,108.11): max fine in new CBA went to $10,000 or half-day's pay, whichever is less.
