Infant Opthamologist/Optometrists in Calgary

Hi everyone,

So I am being told by my wife that the AB Health Services book recommends an eye exam for infants once they reach 6 months (news to me!)... So having no effing clue where to take an infant to get his eyes checked, I thought I'd ask here:

Has anyone had a good experience with an optometrist/opthamologist in town? I think I'd prefer an opthamologist just because they are actual doctors (maybe some MD snobbery filtering in here), but if people have had good experiences with optometrists, I'd consider one too...

He seems to see fine - no concerns driving the desire for a visit, but the book says they should go, so I guess we're going... just want to know if anyone knows of a good one

6 months? That seems like overkill unless you've noticed sosomething specific. You aren't going to put corrective lenses on a six month old.

A few points.

1) An eye exam at 6 months is recommended. An eye turn, or lazy eye, needs to be repaired at a young age to enable the proper development of depth perception. You can correct infants with glasses or CLs.

2) You would have to go through an Optometrist or GP to get a referral to a Ophthalmologist.

Our little guy had his first eye checkup at 6 months as well.
Just used our regular ophthalmologist (also a surgeon) and she was great with him, no issues.
