When Lauer mentioned Cruise's earlier criticism of Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants, Cruise told the "Today" show co-host he didn't know what he was talking about.

"You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do," Cruise said.

The interview became more heated when Lauer, who said he knew people who had been helped by the attention-deficit disorder drug Ritalin, asked Cruise about the effects of the drug.

"Matt, Matt, you don't even -- you're glib," Cruise responded. "You don't even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, OK. That's what I've done."

Wow, Tom Cruise really comes off as a ****** in that article. To claim that he knows what someone else's grasp of a subject is without asking them is so arrogant. To insinuate that he has the ability to judge the practice of psychiatry and psychoactive medication with zero formal training is also brutally arrogant.

Nor has he been pregnant and suffered post-pregnancy depression. Why is he so quick to judge everyone? Has he always been like this and it has never been noticed? You're happy Tom. Good for you, but give it up already and stop thinking you're better than everyone else. You're not.

Isn't he just saying what any fundamentally religious person says - I'm right and you're wrong.

I hate it when stars think their opinion matters in areas unrelated to their profession (be it acting or sports). Tom, just because you are and forever will be Maverick, and you're read some books on the topic - doesn't make you a genius on the topic. It's why I always hated Polically Incorrect and OTR on TSN. What do I care about what Pam Anderson has to say about the situation in Sudan? Change to topic to plastic surgery first, then I'll listen to her.

I wish stars would keep their beliefs to themsleves - are you reading Mel Gibson?

A story about the "chaperone" or maybe "alien face-hugger" Tom has put on Katie.

"Katie Holmes’ Magical ‘Best Friend’

The starry-eyed chaperone who’s been accompanying Katie Holmes to Batman Begins press junkets is not only an agent of Scientology—she’s a powerful one. According to an article from the sect’s in-house magazine, Source, Holmes’ new Church-assigned handler, Jessica Rodriguez, ascended to the level of “New Operating Thetan IV” (Tom Cruise is rumored to be New OT VII) in January 2004. What the Beck does that mean?

According to sources close to the Church, it means she’s joined the elite group of Scientologists who’ve been enlightened with the six-figure secrets of Xenu, the evil intergalactic ruler who implanted “thetans,” or alien spirits, in earth’s volcanoes 75 million years ago, after which they escaped and invaded human bodies. As a “New OT IV,” Rodriguez has the power to, “control life, thought, matter, energy, space, and time,” according to Scientology’s official web site. Having completed the Church’s “False Purpose Rundown,” Katie’s spiritual escort also has the ability to spot any “suppressive persons” (read: enemies of Scientology, like skeptical journalists and concerned friends and family members) who interact with her celebrity charge. And you thought Pat Kingsley was tough!"

Tom Cruise, New Operating Thetan VII, is just a complete psycho in interviews now. He was being interviewed and he was just so distant from reality that it's frightening that this kind of individual actually exists. This guy's ego is really in the stratosphere. When you talk about the things he likes and agrees with, he exudes ridiculous enthusiasm and goes nuts (Leno, Oprah), but as soon as the topic even slightly presents a different view or opinion from his percieved reality, he goes into total Tom Cruise attack mode.

Here is some ideo of tom getting squirted a week or two a go. They are jackasses for doing it but I can't help feel satisfied that they did. He is completely full of shinguard, the worst kind of person in my mind. I will take evil over 'full o' shinguard'.

Haha! The whole time I watched that, I kept thinking "squirt him again! squirt him again" while Tommy was beaking off!

He was making those same statements about psychiatry and drugs to treat mental illness a few weeks ago on Access Hollywood . . . . but nobody really noticed.

There is also a recent report that he tried to "recruit" Scarlett Johansson to Scientology before moving on to Katie Holmes, the goal being a young Hollywood actress.

He's helping Scientology out though . . . . since he's gone off on this public tangent, google hits for "scientology" have surged to astronomical levels.

Everyone has a right to their opinion ...... but when you put it into the public arena, those who disagree are going to step up and make your life uncomfortable.

The Scientologists explain themselves:

The critics weigh in. De-toxifying yourself is the first step:

The different levels of Scientology below: Cruise is reportedly Level 6. John Travolta a level 7. Its a very, very expensive process . . . . .

Also, the church likes Cruise

Whhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?????????????

That reminds me of the Simpsons Stonecutter episode

Who controls the British Crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We do, we do.
Who keeps Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do, we do.
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?
We do, we do.
Who robs cave fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do, we do!

What a seriously wacky religion.

Surreal. It is like he is slowly creeping on his prey and trying to welcome them into a cult.

Scientology is just a complete extortion and brainwash. No wonder Cruise has just gone off the rocker after 20 years of mindwipe and conditioning. It is banned in several countries. Scientologists actually tried a coup against the government in Morocco in the 70s from which L. Ron Hubbard barely escaped. This guy was totally insane and paranoid that every government agency as well as the American Psychiatry Association as well as the Bank of England (wtf?) was out to kill him.

I love this quote:
"I would say that 99 per cent of what my father has written about his own life is false." --- L. Ron Hubbard Jr.

It will be interesting to see how popular his new movie is. Can he still be a bankable movie star acting like this?

Well, I think Cruise has gone off the deep end but I like many of his movies anyway - not all - and from what we're hearing early, it seems like Spielberg has taken another Great Leap Forward in movie making with "War Of The Worlds" so I'll be there to watch it.

But going forward I would agree with nfoitu that stuff like this will either gain him notoriety, which might help his career, or it might sink him deeper than the Titanic.
