Criminal Record checks in Canada

In the US they suggest doing backround checks when girls start dating someone new to find out the guys history. Is there any way to do this in Canada?

I would like to know the story behind this.

With the guys permission you can get a Police Information Check done. Just check the Calgary Police website for locations where forms are available. It's about $30.

Wow I never would have gotten a date if girls or their parents were that thorough.

Next thing you know they're going to want to do a credit check and get two references from girls that you've dated.

To get a Brazillian Work Visa I had to get this from the RCMP and you need to provide identification and sign forms. I imagine this can't be done without the permission of the man in question.

Edit: I see Malcom already stated this. I assume the person has to be present. I don't see this as a big deal if you have nothing to hide.

What do you mean "In the US they suggest"? Just because one or more individuals in the US recommends such a thing, it's rather grandiose to insinuate the entire US is suggesting it. lol.
