Blues Looking to Compete
After completing his second deal in as many hours on Canada's Thanksgiving Holiday, it has become clear GM Teeling is hoping to ice a competitive team. He has almost completely overhauled the entire pro roster, and appears to always be looking for more potential deals.
The two today broke down as so:
1) To Phi:
-Kyle Brodziak C/LW, 28y 65ov
-2nd (2013)
To St.L:
-"Softy" Sami Salo D, 37y 66ov
-Maxim Lapierre C, 27y 62ov
2) To SJ:
Daymond Langkow C, 35y 64ov
1st (2013 - Cond: Top 25)
2nd (2014 - Pho)
4th (2014 - St.L)
To St.L:
Andy McDonald C/LW, 35y 70ov
3rd (2013 - Dal)
3rd (2014 - Tor)
Boat Load of Cash
Both deals came about fairly quickly and didn't take too long to work out. Thanks go out to both Joe and Logan for the talks. It's been a busy day in St.Lou and there could be more to come.
The season opening lineup will now boast a very deep defensive corps and goaltending but lack in offensive firepower. If the results don't come in, the Blues may look at reversing those strengths/weaknesses as the season goes on. For now though, this is what the opposition will be facing:
Gagner (66) - Richards (73) - Vanek (71)
Kostitsyn (64) - Mcdonald (70) - Grabner (65)
Blake (62) - Gordon (62) - Adams (60)
Mitchell (57) - Lapierre (62) - Lebda (54)
Seabrook (75) - Hamhuis (72)
Orpik (69) - Salo (66)
Schenn (65) - Ericsson (63)
Sutton (63)
Backstrom (83)
Garon (75)
With that the lineup is looking like it could stand a chance of putting some wins together if the Defense and Goaltending holds up like it's built to. There isn't a defenseman in the group with less that a 73DF and the top three have mid to high 80's DF, so we're hoping that strong defensive ability coupled with some, albeit, limited goal scoring ability, can translate into a good season here in St. Louis.
