Default Edmonton child found in locked car on hot day

Quote:
EDMONTON – Police were called to a northside Edmonton Walmart Sunday after a three-year-old was left locked in a hot, unattended car.

Josh Steep, who was passing by around 9 p.m., noticed the child and was concerned because of the 30C highs so he did the only thing he could think of: He called the police.

"We called 911 and we discussed it with the respondent," Steep said. "I said, 'What do you want me to do? He said, 'I know what I'd do if I was you,' and that was good enough for me."

I know this is gonna sound harsh, but people seriously need to be given tests before they have kids to make sure they are mentally fit to raise kids. You gotta be some kind of moron to do this.

It was 30C at 9pm in Edmonton?

A temperature like that at that time of day, that has to be an all time record.

It's forecasted to be 30 again this evening in Edmonton.

Inside of a vehicle can shoot up to 40 C in a matter of minutes, and that is not a healthy situation for a three-year-old
Forecast high for tomorrow in Phoenix is 45..so do they declare an emergency and go around hauling anyone they see out of vehicles?

9pm...so likely little to no direct sunshine on the vehicle, ambient temperatures falling, talk about overreaction...

I disagree. My vehicle can still get overly stuffy and warm at that hour. Windows closed with a person breathing inside?

Anyway, what in blue hell were these parents doing leaving their kid in a Walmart parking lot? You don't just "run in to Walmart" the way you run into Macs. You can't see your kid through the front window. It takes at least 15 minutes to even buy a pack of gum in that store. How much trouble can a three year old kid get into in 15 minutes? He can figure out how to unlock the door and go for a walk. He can get kidnapped by one of the many creepy-as-fu*k people that lurk in the Walmart parking lot. He can find a quarter in in the seat cushions and choke on it. The fact that it was 30 degrees just makes an already idiotic situation much, much worse.

This is not an over reaction. Those people deserved more than their window smashed. In my opinion, of course.

Walmart was clearing out Old Dutch potato chips. I'm surprised there was only one child left in the parking lot.

Hot cars can be dangerous for anybody. A kid that attended my cousin's school died after a night of drinking and pretty much roasting in his car the next morning. (It was July, he was at a party and decided to pass out in his car, coroner said alcohol poisoning but the common story told is that he was too drunk to wake up and broiled to death) Sounds like an urban legend, but I guess it could have actually happened.

Stupid people will do stupid things if given the chance. I hope the toddler is okay.

Riiiiiight...the car gets hotter than ambient at 9pm at night. Care to explain how that happens?

It's 28 C out right now, at 8pm, so roughly the same time of day, and my car has been parked, windows closed for over an hour, so it should be at least 50 degrees C per your chart...want me to go check?

Even if it was 15º out leaving a 3 year old in a car unattended probably isn't the best idea.

Cars become ovens when it's hot out.

Small children and pets are way more susceptible to this.

Even if we set the whole temperature issue aside....

WHO LEAVES A 3 YEAR OLD UNATTENDED IN A LOCKED VEHICLE!!!!!!!
