Default Car Dealers on Kijiji

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about a couple of the car dealerships I frequently see on Kijiji. Their prices tend to be a fair amount lower than other dealers. Something seems dodgey...

Anyway, here's a few of them:
- Calgary Auto Connection
- Calgary Auto Quest
- Envision Auto

Thanks in advance.

I bought a truck using kijiji (primarily) a few months ago, and of the two I looked at on lots, one was way more beat up than the pictures showed, and the other one was a bait and switch (the price was $2,000 more than the advertised price) - "oops, sorry I have to change the ad!".

Went to one of those first two last year in the early fall for a casual test drive, the truck had some warning lights on, and some more advanced electronics that just plain didn't work.

A shrug of the shoulders or a blank stare when bringing it up was all I got, saying that they'd look into it. That truck is still for sale and I am guessing its still got the same issues (and probably more terminal ones once you start digging), because its still a very good price.

I am guessing a lot of US or eastern Canadian cars they get at auction somewhere, most have highish km's...probably some have had rebuilt engines or transmissions dropped in which they don't tell you about unless you really push them. Don't think that Carproof catches all that major work, and wouldn't be surprised if some of them come back on Carproof as salvage.

That, and those places are the epitome of shadiness...most of the times you can get past that at dealers if you know what you want and what you're getting and how to spot the issues, but you never feel good about any conversations you have with the people that work there. I am guessing you'd not be able to take any of those cars to an independant inspection without serious negotiations, and by the end, you're more willing to pay the extra $4k to go somewhere else and get probably a better vehicle with a much better story behind it.

Just a heads up - I know someone who sold their car on kijiji about 6 weeks ago. They discovered their car back on kijiji a few days later with the odometer rolled back and all the issues originally listed were now gone.

I've seen that once or twice. One time we also had this one car that came in for an Out of Province Inspection and the car was from Quebec. When we put it up on the hoist, it looked like someone put bathroom caulking all over the undercarriage. Severely damaged up-- we poked a hole through the floor with a screwdriver.

The guy said he bought it on Kijiji from one of those 'pot lots' (not a franchised dealership). I would just exercise due diligence and get it inspected or checked out, as they might not even be AMVIC licensed. I would trust a private seller more, personally. Good luck!

Cheers

Did you report it to the police?

I didn't see the ad nor the car. I suggested it to the friend. They were also in the process of messing wiith the lister by making appointments to buy and asking for it to be held and other thing they found entertaining.
