Went to one of those first two last year in the early fall for a casual test drive, the truck had some warning lights on, and some more advanced electronics that just plain didn't work.
A shrug of the shoulders or a blank stare when bringing it up was all I got, saying that they'd look into it. That truck is still for sale and I am guessing its still got the same issues (and probably more terminal ones once you start digging), because its still a very good price.
I am guessing a lot of US or eastern Canadian cars they get at auction somewhere, most have highish km's...probably some have had rebuilt engines or transmissions dropped in which they don't tell you about unless you really push them. Don't think that Carproof catches all that major work, and wouldn't be surprised if some of them come back on Carproof as salvage.
That, and those places are the epitome of shadiness...most of the times you can get past that at dealers if you know what you want and what you're getting and how to spot the issues, but you never feel good about any conversations you have with the people that work there. I am guessing you'd not be able to take any of those cars to an independant inspection without serious negotiations, and by the end, you're more willing to pay the extra $4k to go somewhere else and get probably a better vehicle with a much better story behind it.
