Lots of pics up on twitter of the two of them dangling from the side of the Elveden Centre. Word is their scaffold gave out and they fell from the 18th floor down to the 8th.

Yikes, they're going to be pretty hurt. The fall arrest devices aren't stretchy like bungee cords.

Buddy in the building just said people in the opposite building across the street were smiling and taking pics -- hoping that's a sign they are okay.

They do have some elasticity. Some lanyards are similar to a bungee cord, others have a shock absorber on one end. Still is going to hurt. The worst part (I was told in fall arrest training) is hanging, waiting for help. Some guys have lost their testicles from lack of circulation.

At least they worked. A few years ago a window washer fell in Vancouver and the fall protection failed.

I always thought this would be a cool job. Loss of testicles aside of course.

You're right, but its not going to make a huge difference falling 10 floors as reported.

It is going to make a huge difference. Without any elasticity you would be dead from a 100 foot drop.

Yup, an absolutely huge difference. The difference between being dead and not seriously injured.
