And don't stare at it!

Don't think its gonna be clear enough to get a retina searing look at it.

Might not be retina searing but it's definitely brighter then it should be when it's this cloudy.

Eclipses are supposed to be darker, not brighter.

Yea that confused me too because we should be blacked out right now and yet it looks really bright outside.

I know it's annular eclipse but it should still have been a little dark.

Looks good now. Quickly built the shoebox viewer. Also did about 3 pairs of sunglasses, looks better.

Even though it's an annular eclipse, we're not even getting full coverage here, just a portion (75%)

It changes so slowly though that it's hard to tell without the really distinctive full eclipse, I mean in the winter we probably get even less light than with this 75% eclipse, but we still see that as daytime.

Fortunately the big cloud moved out of the way right before maximum so my pinhole projector worked quite well.

75% eclipse, next one not for a decade or something, and no one around me even knew about it let alone were out to watch.

Apparently there's a transit of Venus June 5th... last one until 2117. I just learned this today. Wonder if there's still enough time to order a solar filter.

What would you need to see that, anything below a telescope work?

EDIT: Looks like it. Neat!

Here's a shot of the eclipse from Japan (this am). A bit cloudy, but added to the mood:
