RIP Carroll Shelby
Quote:
If you haven’t caught it yet on social media outlets, we’re here to share some sad news in the Ford Mustang world, everyone. As the headline states, we’ve lost Carroll Shelby from this land and he’s no doubt headed to the 1320′ strip in the clouds for the hereafter. Shelby passed away at age 89 yesterday, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. As of this point, we know he was not doing well health-wise, but the official terminal cause has not been released.
The automotive magnate of all things Mustang, and other Detroit muscle, will be sorely missed as one of the legends…one of the greats…one who shaped the automotive industry AND aftermarket then, now, and the future.
Hats off from StangNet, Carroll Shelby. Your presence will be sorely missed by many.
Keep reading to get more detail in the Press Release following…

I'm surprised this isn't bigger news. The man is a legend in the world of motorsports.

Always sad to see a hardcore enthusiast go. He always came across as a bit of an egotistical ass to me (especially in his later years), but it's hard to deny his influence on the industry. The man had passion for his cars, and created a whole generation of car enthusiasts out of it.

I think legend is even an understatement. He was a god in the motorsports world. His name is up there with names like Enzo Ferrari and Ferdinand Porsche.
RIP.

This is sad to hear, he was a trailblazer for sure. The 60's Cobras and GT350/500 Mustangs were legendary.

I'm not sure I'd go that far myself just because those two guys founded two of the best car brands in the world (as opposed to being a tuning arm) and have an international following where as Shelby is a bigger deal in North America, but he's not too far off.

I'm not a huge care guy or anything, but two things I do know is that Carroll Shelby is/was a legend. And that the '69 Shelby GT500 is the sexiest car ever.
Large, but awesome.
Rest in peace, Sir.

RIP.
Loved his early cars, hated how he whored his name on the 05+ mustangs.
He was still a car legend though.

You do know that those 05+ Mustangs were modified and tuned at the Shelby factory, right?

The 05 Mustangs were hardly the worst of things he attached his name to.

Apparently the thing was over 600hp

I always like how whenever he was asked what his favourite car was that bore his name, he would always reply: "The next one".
Very cool man.
Was reading that he had a Cobra sell in '07 (I think) for 5.5M which is still a record for an American-made car. That particular car once was his personal car, had over 800hp and would hit 0-60 MPH in just over 3 seconds. Three Seconds! And that car was built over forty years ago!

The original AC Cobra is still one of my favorite cars of all time. Take a tiny light weight body, and stick the biggest monster of an engine you can find inside of it. How can the results not be totally awesome?
