Default CISPA is the new SOPA

In risking a repeat of the backlash one poster faced for bringing up the NDAA issue via an Anonymous video, I hereby present to you a Ron Paul video warning about SOPA 2.0... (don't worry, for those that would just ignore this because of who is delivering the message, you can jump over it to a Cenk from The Young Turks video that also issues a similar warning.)

And the Young Turks version:

Funny how the message lately gets lost in whom the messenger is...

I find it disheartening that at some point they will simply pass the legislation they want. America the free huh? Narf.

I find it disheartening that people aren't making a huge issue out of this one, but fought tooth and nail for SOPA and PIPA to not pass. CISPA is IMO worse than the original bill.

I'm starting to suspect large units of the population only interact when they see direct interference with themselves (IE the boogyman image that Facebook, Wikipedia, and Google could go down), not on the level of damage that it can actually cause.

I thought this bill had already faced some similar public backlash and criticism? I might be thinking of PIPA though.

How would this fly with Canadian citizens in light of existing privacy legislation?

Fortunately, it seems Obama might veto it even if it does pass both houses

Funny, I was just reading that Resolute.

Here's the gig. In order to look good, threaten the veto, but after a couple minor tweeks that don't really change anything, vote for it.

Quote:
"Obama threatened to veto NDAA, too. How'd that turn out?" Kendall Clark, CEO of startup Clark Stardog.com, wrote on Twitter.

NDAA, or the National Defense Authorization Act, was passed by Congress late last year. Opponents criticized the bill for its provisions that would allow the government to indefinitely detain American citizens. In November, the White House said the bill spawned "serious and unsettled legal questions and would be inconsistent with the fundamental American principle that our military does not patrol our streets."

The White House statement claimed the President’s senior advisers would recommend a veto (the language sound familiar to anyone?) if the House passed NDAA. Instead, Obama signed NDAA into law less than two months later.

What the people should be fighting for is to get rid of lobbying and fight for government reform, and in the meantime voting every incumbent crook out.

As long as the MPAA and RIAA have their hands in the back pockets of congressmen and senators these bills won't stop being written.

Politicians don't write laws in the interest of the people anymore.

No he's not.

He's paying lip service to Americans ...........again.
He said he was going to veto the NDAA bill ....and then signed it on new years eve.

There is no question that the U.S. government is not working in the interest of their people. Here we had the whole country making it clear they didn't want anything to do with SOPA, only to have the political elites re-package it under another name.

Perhaps we can form a lobby group to protest lobby groups.

On a serious note, that seems to be what Colbert is doing with his super PAC so maybe it would work.

A last-minute push by critics of a bill that would allow Internet companies to open their networks to the Feds didn't work. The House approved CISPA by a 248-168 vote.
Off to the Senate it goes

Up to congress and Obama now. Obama has promised to veto things in the past and hasn't though.

Democracy at it's finest. Keep pushing the same law until it passes.

US civil rights are eroding so fast it's hard to keep track.

Then again, they've kept on digging their own hole for so long despite the warning signs that it's getting hard to muster up sympathy.

Am I alone, but have Americans, on the whole, gone completely bat#### insane. The things that have been brought up lately will destroy society and major industries as we know it.

This stupid moronic bill will basically destroy the internet and all the financial gain from it. Removing rights from women, non whites and basically anyone other than conservatives. So many different unbelievably idiotic things that it's starting to make me believe that the US is quickly turning into the late 1920's Germany, I'm just thankful that their nominee is about as charismatic as a turnip.
