Everyone is scared to death to deal and 90% of the GM's think they are going to win the Stanley Cup and that includes the teams already eliminated from the playoffs.
I don't see many deals happening at all, maybe a couple minor ones but that's about it.

I don't think guys are scared, I just think that the prices are high and with the sim this year I don't think that loading up makes a ton of sense. Really good teams are struggling just like mediocre teams, so why "spend" all the youth and assets and not get much further ahead?

That's how I see it too. Though I have to say when I've had a player to move I've had no problems finding a good deal. So if you can't find a buyer - you are asking too much.
I've been able to ship out every one of my vets for something.

I disagree. My asking price on Pitkanen is more than reasonable and I am willing to take a hit there but it seems like everyone has a team full of superstars.
Apparently Pitkanen, a top 10 1st and another 2012 1st doesn't get me very far. Either Pitkanen is the worst player in the history of the CPHL or 1st round picks are worthless. I can't even get a conversation started!
I am just going to deal with Cheese, at least he makes an effort 100% of the time to get something done, even if some offers are crazy...LOL. Helsa has also been good and knows what type of deal I was willing to do with him but the money just doesn't work. I am willing to take a hit on Pitkanen but no one is even interested in upgrading. I am willing to add 1sts to Pitkanen but no one is interested in downgrading.
Cheese let's make a deal.

I've made lots of deals with you, most of which you've won! I think the issue is that Pitkanen sucks!

I don't know what specific players you are targeting for Pitakanen but I would suspect that it is a #1 dman in his prime. For me that would mean Letang or AP. I'm not trading either for Pitkanen even with the adders.
And if you are after similar players from other clubs than I can imagine the answer being the same.
Pitkanen's cruddy NHL season may also be a factor. Guys having bad NHL seasons are amongst the toughest to move. I had a devil of a time moving Derek Roy because of his point totals this year. Injuries are a factor with Joni to be sure - but that's also a reason why he would be hard to find good value for.

Let's not get the wrong idea here and don't jump to conclusions, Tallinder is hardly a #1 dman in his prime and he was the dman I had my last talks on. That's the type of guy I have been looking at but still no one interested because everyone has a team full of superstars.
I did target one #1dman in his prime and offered the 7th overall pick as well as another 2012 1st. That was for a 2ov upgrade but still no good.
Like I said, I don't see many deals happening before the deadline. I hope I am wrong.

I dont expect to be busy in Dallas and here is why.
1. I have no cheese or roster space left to sell of the few impact cphl players I have left.
2. Even though I'm in a playoff spot I have no interest in buying upgrades with picks and prospects as it is those future assets I worked to aquire during my mid season sellout. Playoffs are a bonus this season but I gave up on this season a while ago.
As for Pitkanen, I just don't think he is a well liked cphl player(former oiler, doesn't get a lot of attention in Carolina etc). His shortened season and pending 3 year RFA contract probably don't help either. Just my speculation though.
I hope some teams make a big splash though.

I'll trade you Tallinder for Pitkanen and two 1sts. If only I had Tallinder.

The deadline is quite late, the season is almost over and the majority of the post season teams are decided. Many teams made their trades already to help them get into the playoffs and bolster their line-ups for the playoffs many moons ago. Also it seemed that alot of teams became sellers early even if they were close to a playoff position. Why trade away the future when the player might get to play 5 or 7 games tops? I realize the deadline is late to encourage trading throughout the whole season so I don't have any issue with that.

Well geeze, that sure makes me want to deal!
I set a trade deadline for myself a few weeks back. Anything I've been working on since then has been regarding potential off-season deals only.

Nothing. Cap just didn't work. Also, for the record, Cheese wanted me to add a 1st to Pitkanen in a deal for Jackman. Yes trading is a blast right now.

NJ has stumbled pretty badly since moving out Perry and cant find the back of the net. We are in a close race for the 8th seed, but things dont look good.
With 1 game remaining before the deadline, we are going to test the market for some guys and see where the offers take us. If we like the lateral moves to jump start us, we could move in that direction. If offers have us leaning into the direction as sellers, we will explore that route as well.
Here are my UFA's:
Doan
Hagman
Brad Stuart
Fedotenko
Check our roster for everybody else. Everybody but Giroux is available, some more than others.
We also can move cheese out in any deal to help move things along.

well sir we should talk the WHOLE deal...you wanted Jackman and Mietinen and $$$ difference in the deal for Pitkanen.
As mentioned during discussions I think Jackman is as good as Pitkanen and his stats back that up. Value wise this year Pitkanen is better, but he will rerate in the offseason to similar dollar figures. With Pitkanens head injury and knee surgery this year I dont think the value was there to trade a top Defensive dman and a forward plus 6M in cash for Pitkanen straight across.
Of course I also told you that was my opinion, for what it was worth.

Let's be clear, not once did I ask for Mietinen. I didn't want Mietinen at all and I would be doing you a favor taking that horrible contract off your hands. He is horrible and his contract stinks.
When you asked me if I was including a 1st with Pitkanen I almost chocked on my coffee.
