About time Jim, you and your Co-CEO have driven that company into the ground. Hopefully some fresh blood will turn it around.

Getting out before they completely collapse. Didn't help that he cared more about getting an NHL team than running a company.

God, I really want this company to make a come back.

Blackberry's are still some of the most beautiful phones on the market, but the phones that came out last year are almost the same phones that came out in 2008.

The cell phone game is constantly changing and improving by leaps and bounds, and Blackberry's have taken pathetic baby steps.

Wow, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Does that mean Samsung isn't going to buy them? If they were he would have stuck around for the golden handshake.

Probably way too late to save the company, but I guess better late then never. Using a Blackberry is like going back to 1995. The phones themselves might look nice, but the user interface is absolutely terrible.

Well, one problem is RIM hires mostly statisticians for their market intelligence team. I'm sure they are great at crunching numbers, but they wouldn't provide true insight on how the competitive landscape is performing in day-to-day real life.

Ditch the hardware and license the software. About time the two co-CEOs stepped down though.

I'm surprised (obviously, or I would've loaded up on their shares!), but they made at least one great decision here. They expanded the size of the board and brought in Prem Watsa. That might not mean a lot to most people, but he is a fantastic addition. Watsa is CEO of Fairfax Financial and runs a great operation. He has been called the Warren Buffett of Canada and while I can hear the "RIM needs innovation" cries, the reality is that his expertise and guidance is a huge addition.

Well the stock will open higher to begin with...hard to say if it continues to rise all day though? I'm very interested to see where it opens though.

This isn't going to change anything. RIM has no new technology in the pipeline (see: no innovation in half a decade). The company is worth the price of the patents they own.

The Yotes outlasted Balsillie. Who would have guessed that?

Not that I believe they do, but how do you know that?

I haven't ever used a torch, but the bolds are clunky and irritatingly dated. I doubt we'll see any real changes in the devices despite Balsillie resigning.

"The company named Thorsten Heins, currently one of RIM’s two chief operating officers, as chief executive. He pledged during an interview on Sunday to follow the strategy Mr. Balsillie and Mr. Lazaridis set in place." - From the NYT

Does RIM have two of everything???

Two years is time to upgrade a phone anyways.
