What is this place? was the guy selling meat from the back of his trunk?

Not sure if you want to risk it or not but the best fondue meat is from the meat market at the back of the lamda supermarket off Centre Street. It's risky because who knows how much they would charge a white boy since none of their meat have prices on them.

But it is all pretty fresh and pre sliced for you.

Why did you continue with freezing the meat after you opened the package and it stunk? Im sure you could have returned and they would have given you some new meat and probably given you something for your trouble.

I shop at the 4th St location in Mission quite frequently and have found this to be a great shop.

Its unfortunate about your experience but it shouldnt stop others from shopping here and even you should give it another try.

Are you sure you handled the meat properly from the time you took it out of the store to when you brought it home and then opened it? Im surprised theyd give you a stinky piece of meat from under the glass.

Id suggest going back there and telling them of your experience even if you dont intend to shop there again. Im sure youd get your money back at the very least.

I grabbed the first slice, put it on the end of the fondue fork and put it in the yummy broth. Took it out 5 minutes later, looked a nice cooked color, and put it in my mouth. HOLY FACK! *mod edit*.

So the moral of the story is that spending extra money for premium butcher beef is not worth it.

Yeah, that place is pretty damn fresh. It's because they bring the WHOLE damn pig into the shop and butcher it there instead of having someone else cutting the meat into more manageable pieces and then buying it from them. This is also to save on cost. But holy shat, when they accidentally pierce intestine, the entire mall smells like shat. Literally.

I originally put in the word sh*t and the forum edited it out, so I replace it with shat.

Bumping this thread.

I saw an offer on the Fan960 website for this place and was going to grab it for Christmas.

I googled to find the address and this was one of the first hits.

Anyone tried this place recently? How was it?

All I know is that groupons for butchers have never turned out well in the past (there was a big fiasco in Toronto over it)

Horizon Meats up in the NE has had coupons on Dealfind recently, and everything has gone well with them.

I goto the mission location quite regularly. I have never had a bad experience, although if I had an experience like Fotzes' I probably would have been quite turned off. Regardless, I still think it is one of the best butchers I have been to

I had some of those too. Really nice sausages and smokies, and the beef jerky was awesome. It actually took a couple of minutes to chew through it.. not like that crap they sell in convenience stores.

Just with regards to Second to None - the bacon burgers are pretty, pretty, pretty bad. It might just be my own preferences to taste and texture, but they were not like I was expecting, and that was after shelling out about $50 for a box of 16 of these burgers.

I never realized how quickly beef would go bad. I bought some ground beef at Costco and seperated it into ziploc bags and froze it awhile ago. I took it out early last week to make burgers but only ended up using about half of the bag. I left the rest in the fridge and went to use it last night. It smelled awful.. like rotten eggs. I figured it wuold last longer than that in the fridge, but maybe the freezing, thawing, and then sitting in the fridge had something to do with it.

I purchased some Prime Rib bones (prime rib bones, with lots of meat on them, make good beef ribs), that were beyond spoiled.

When I opened the package they smelled like rotting grass, seriously gag inducing.

I didn't have the time to return them so they ended up in the garbage.

I'm sure if I had returned them, they would have compensated me, they have been extremely fair in any dealings I have had with them.

i'm not sure if there is any 'rule' for thawed ground beef.... but i was always told to use all of it right away

.... guess mom was right!!!

I didn't think you could use thawed out beef for making hamburgers. If its not sealed extremely well, it will get freezer burn. I don't think thawed beef is good for anything besides hamburger helper, chili, or scenarios where its being cooked as soon as possible, or in a cook-while-it-thaws situation.

That's not to say it isn't possible, but I haven't had success using thawed-out, ground beef for items like meatballs or meat loaf, etc.

Thawed ground beef is only good for a day. Sometimes a little bit longer, but I wouldn't risk it.
