My mother tried it and liked it. But I don't really trust everything my mother says because she also buys all the fads from the shopping channel.

I must admit that this "space age discovery" is a very effective decompression treatment: it decompresses the patient's wallet and does wonders for anemia of the chiropractic bank account!
My hat's off to these guys as salesmen. They are very good at what they do. Too bad it has nothing to do with real science or good medical care. I wouldn't buy a used car from these wheelers and dealers, much less trust them with my one and only spine. You can't believe everything you read in the newspaper.
Be Wary of Spinal Decompression Therapy
with VAX-D or Similar Devices
http://www.chirobase.org/06DD/vaxd/vaxd.html
VAX-D is an expensive high-tech form of mechanical traction that can provide relief in some cases of back pain but is widely promoted with unsubstantiated claims that it can correct degenerated and herniated discs without surgery. When the FDA cleared the VAX-D table as a traction device, it set limits on what the manufacturer could claim. Individual providers, provider associations, and the manufacturer itself have exceeded these limits. VAX-D therapy may provide relief for properly selected patients. However, there are good reasons to believe that manual treatment can usually accomplish the same thing more quickly, safely, and less expensively. The same considerations apply to the Decompression Reduction Stabilization (DRS) System, Accu-Spina System, DRX-3000, DRX9000, SpineMED Decompression Table, and Lordex Traction Unit, which are similar devices marketed by other companies. They also apply to Triton DTS (a simpler. less expensive traction device) and the Z-Grav, a tilt table marketed through SpinalAid Centers of America, that is claimed to decompress by gravitational force.
http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/...sion-machines/
The Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) show “Marketplace” has just done a scathing exposé of so-called nonsurgical spinal decompression treatment with machines like the DRX 9000 and of some of the unscrupulous practitioners who offer it. Between the hidden camera footage and the weasel words of the chiropractor they interview, it’s quite entertaining.

If you are going down that road it might be better for you to buy a home spinal decompression table. My girlfriends uncle has one, and I think he uses his everyday and it helps his back.
Probably isn't going to fix anything permanently, but if it gets rid of or reduces day to day pain then it's money well spent.

Exactly. What could possibly go wrong with discount spinal care?
I used groupon to get a deal on some psychology sessions and that went pretty good - he cured me of my obsession with Peter Mansbridge. On the other hand I do now think I'm a chicken.
You get what you pay for, I guess.

Ive done it before, you dont feel the immediate affects but its great prevention for future injury. When i was really heavy into sports i used to go in for treatment at least once a week more for prevention than anything and never suffered major back pains when doing decompression

I call it a crock.
If you have issues with compressed disks, buy a pullup bar, and let yourself hang with your feet hanging down for 30-45 seconds at a time.
Do that 3-4 times per day.
