Default Our dream...going to Phoenix

Ok, well it isn't really our dream but I liked Petr's title from last year.

Mrs. Furnace and I are looking to go to Phoenix for the game against the Jets in October. We're looking at the lower bowl $75 tickets.

Questions for the locals or those who have gone:
- Are there better seats for less money?
- What are the best hotels nearby?
- Things to do other than go to the game?

Cheers.

Buy the cheapest seat then choose your empty section of choice.

Me and a buddy used to do that all the time at the Dome. Darryl Sutter went and ruined that.

The last time we went to Phoenix we got the Hyatt Gainey Ranch for a wicked deal on Hotwire.

I've gone to about half a dozen Coyote games and you can get some amazing seats for under $80. If I recall, I got club seats on the one end of the rink for $80, near all the boxes which was nice.

The Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa is the best place to stay. It's right next to the arena, there are plenty of places to eat in walking distance and the rooms are really nice and clean.

I find in Jobing.com arena, if you're sitting in the corners, the view is better if you get at least 15 rows from the ice. On the sides, I've sat as close as the glass and as far as 14 rows back and been able to see just fine.

If you want to splurge, the Toyota Club seats are pretty fun. You get in to the arena early, you have access to the club, where you can eat regular stadium food, or restaurant style food. The seats are going to be close to the glass, but because the arena is pretty new, the first row on the glass is built up high enough that even right behind the bench you can still see. If you're only going once, its worth the 150 bucks for the VIP experience, IMO.

Nearby, the Renaissance (literally 20 steps away). Pretty decent rates as well normally.

Not a whole lot in Glendale but again within walking distance you've got the Westgate shopping area. Some pretty cool restaurants in the area. Yard House is awesome, especially after 9pm Sunday-Wednesday when a ton of menu items are half price and beer is cheap.

If you want to travel a little ways, Scottsdale is really great. Tons of great restaurants, bars, art galleries, shops, etc. I just got back from being out there and stayed at the Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort for $90 a night. Amazing deal, great resort with two huge pools, health club, tennis courts and a bunch of other awesome amenities. Came with free hot breakfast buffet each day for both of us too.

my wife and i went to phoenix this past march - we had a blast

we caught 2 coyotes games - both lower bowl, one game was around the penalty boxes, the other was a little farther back and around the blue line - both times the seats were awesome.

we had rented a car that came with unlimited miles.... we took a drive up to sedona and to the grand canyon. sedona was beautiful and the grand canyon was freaking amazing. we spent a full day at the canyon and i wish we could have spent even more time up there.

my wife dragged me to the outlet malls... the outlets at anthem - they were pretty cool... but i could have been in and out of there in about 30 minutes... my wife, not so much!

Friends of mine wanted to do this in Phoenix this past year and were given a really hard time. I'm not going to derail this thread with a full explanation and discussion, but the place was half empty (quelle suprise) and they weren't trying to move way down from the rafters.

Anyway, I don't know if that is something they actually care about there, or if it was an isolated incident.

Jobbing.com Arena is in Glendale. Yeah there's a few bars and restaurants as part of that westgate entertaiment complex, but you are better off staying in Phoenix IMO. More to do.

If you plan on seeing phoenix/scottsdale for a few days don't stay in glendale. Besides the NHL and NFL stadium and a cool restaurant area right by the arenas it is empty and a ways out.

For shopping the arizona mills outlet mall on baseline road is the best.

For restaurants Don and Charlies is a cool sports memorabilia rib/steak place. food is Great and reasonable for what you get.

In scottsdale Lee's cream Liquere(sp?) is cool, alcohol infused iced cream that is delicious.

Any football games around that time? NBA might start up if they get their labour dispute done and it is cool to see live. MLB playoffs might still be going on?

They have awesome go-karts at K1 speed that is near the outlet mall I mentioned earlier.

How long are you going for?

You can take a tour of Jobbing.com for 7 bucks which for me included both press box and Yotes locker room. That was in August though so during the season there might be a bit less access. Still very cool to see.

If you are intent on staying in Glendale there's a row of hotels just North of Westgate that are cheaper than the Renaissance and brand new. Still walking distance if ou don't want to drive the 3 blocks but then parking around the area is completely free to.

If you are interested inthe Phoenix Metro and Scottsdale areas the 3 Palms in Scottsdale was very nice for a motel style place. Located less than 20 minutes from downtown Scottsdale, Downtown Phoenix (with both the US Airways Arena and Chase Field), Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe and of course Sky Harbour Airport. Takes about 30-40 minutes to get to Westgate depending on traffic.

There is also an outlet mall out in Anthem with more/different stores than the Mills but lacks the Aquarium. It's about 40 minutes from the airport. And if any location is fine so long as you can relaxe I suggest Carefree Resort. GORGEOUS (doing a little reno but still beautiful) place with verything you need to just chillaxe. A dive to get to Glendale but worth it if you are going to see 1 game and then veg.
