Default Coming to Calgary next week

hey CP

so the mrs and i are coming to Calgary next week! i'm pumped - i love visiting Calgary.

this trip is a little special - the 21st is our 10 year anniversary and i'm looking for idea's... i figure pulling up to Peters' Drive-In for a burger at 5:30 probably isn't a good call! ha! ha!

a couple of years ago we did the Calgary Tower for our anniversary - it was really nice and lots of fun... but i'd like to do something different this time.

any suggestions for restaurants would be appreciated. i'm thinking on the higher end - i don't mind splurging - heck, she deserves it for having to put up with me for the last decade! ha! ha!

does anyone know of any festivals or just cool stuff going on in the city next week. i know the last time we were in town we stumbled across a cool latin/south american type festival down town - lots of great music and vendors and stuff - it was really cool.

also - i'm planning on bringing my camera gear so i'm looking for cool spots to get some great pics ... city shots, architecture, landscapes, whatever (i just love the cp photo thread and hope to get some sweet pics while in town)

the only plans we have so far is to cheer the stamps to victory on the 23rd!

cheers

chris

I recommend Brava Bistro. It's in the middle of the action on 17th and a bit more on the higher end.

Theres a solid Chinese buffet on Mcleod with hundreds of items...
On a serious note why not consider taking her to bragg creek (only a half hour) for a dinner? Its a nice setting and romantic for such a anniversary.

I was going to suggest River Cafe or Rouge, malcolm seems to have those covered!

Hit up the Sun & Salsa Festival on Sunday the 24th in Kensington. http://www.visitkensington.com/sun-and-salsa/

As for pictures, head to Scotsman's Hill or park on Crescent Road and go for a walk above Memorial. Both can be Googled. You can also drive up behind COP and get a pretty cool view of the Northwest. It's the best place to be when there's an epic prairie thunderstorm rolling in.

I'd go with Rougeand stroll around the river/Inglewood before/after or River Cafe and walk around Prince's Island Park.

Alot of the other listed restaurants are good, but I'd go with River Cafe since you can make a great date out of it due to the location.

I'm gonna plug Charcut again because it's still awesome and I still love it. Connie DeSousa, the co-owner/chef, was a finalist on Top Chef which is pretty cool. They smoke and cure their own meats and roast their prime rib all day. Definitely try the prime rib.

there is a sbarro's in almost every major mall in town - location, value, fresh taste - what more could you ask for in an anniversary dinner

^^ha ha!!

that reminds of something we did a couple years ago....

we're at a grocery store picking up a crap load of food. it must have been around april becuz those cadbury cream eggs were for sale. my wife LOVES those things (gross!). so i had one hidden in the buggy. the cashier puts it thru and my wife is visibly excited about the cream egg.... i pick it up, give it to her and say, "happy anniversary!" my wife takes the egg gives me a hug and we leave. the look on the cashiers face was priceless - we still laugh about it!

La Vita e Bella is a really nice restaurant on 12th Ave & MacLeod......a couple of blocks from City Hall/Olympic Plaza.

It's very highly rated on Urbanspoon and Tripadvisor, and well worth the penny paid.
