Default Apprentice Electrician

Well, after years in the service/sales industry I have decided it's time for a change.
I am looking to become an apprentice electrician.
I am a relatively quiet hard-working quick learner. I have always had an interest in it, and I am at the point in my life where I want and desire a career to have a stable future for myself and my family.
If anyone knows of anyone that is looking for someone to help them out, or if you even have some advice as I admitedly do not have a lot of experience in this, I would be thankful for the help.
Please feel free to respond, or to PM me if you would like my resume and cover letter, or with even just simple advice.
Thanks everyone!

Get ready for crappy work and lots of friendly abuse.

First years do not get the "nicest" work assignments...

"Crawl in there and get the cable" type of stuff...

Good luck though. J-man electricians can do very well for themselves...

Write down a simple 2 sentence phrase like "Hello im Jack Bush and im looking at getting into the trade, if your hiring 1st years I would like to send you my resume."

Then open the phonebook and just call every companies secretary.. alternatively you can goto the Unemployment Office and get the Business Directory and photocopy it, that will give you alot more information such as which companies are Residential and which are Commercial.

Also as a 1st year its not as bad as Nufy says. If its commercial your 1st year will consist of getting tools and materials and handing things to people up on ladders. Near the end of your 1st year you should have basic pipe bending skills. If you go into residential expect to be either drilling alot of holes through wooden studs or alot of experiance at putting in switches, receptacles.

I don't do a lot of Commercial or Resi work but the O&G stuff I do see is what I comment on...

The first year is the guy in the trench up to his/her knees in mud/water digging to drain a trench.

He is the guy who every one bugs the crap out of to see if they will break.

I will offer one bit of advice...

Your job as a first year is to learn. If you think you know something or have questions, ask...don't do it on your own and screw it up.

It screws up your day and mine cuz I have to wait for it to be fixed.

The you get an ever crappier job.....LOL
