Netherlands to keep pot from tourists!
Honestly what are they thinking? Name the top two things to do in the Netherlands and they are......
1) Pot Brownies
2) Red light district
and a distant third....
Windmills
But now they will restrict tourists from partaking!
Quote:
The Dutch cabinet says it will push ahead with plans to force anyone wishing to purchase marijuana at the country's weed cafes to first obtain an official pass — a move designed to curtail tourists from buying the drug.

I'm not surprised by this. I lived there for a while when I was younger and the Dutch people aren't really proud of the reputation they've got from this. However, I don't really se it effecting the tourists wanting to partake, there's a pretty big black market underground seen in The Netherlands.

I think the locals are tired of the gong show of stoned frat boys from North America.

HUH? Why go there then? There is a thriving black market here which is by far cheaper!! Without the damn airfair or Eurofair!

You have to include the UK, South Africa and particularly Australia as well.
Personally I like Holland but hate Amsterdam.

That has got to be one of the stupidest law combinations I've heard of.
"Let's create a whole scene of legal entrepeneurs and then force them into illegal activity just to stay in business."
Rarely has the term "manufactured crime" applied better.
Here's an idea: why not turn that "organized crime" of pot growing into a legal business opportunity? Wouldn't that make a lot more sense?

FYP
Both times I've been there the place was littered with English, Irish and Scottish University students, had to have outnumbered North American's 10-1.

Canadians who travel all the way to Amsterdam for pot should reassess their knowledge of their own country. I know more than a few people who made trips to Amsterdam for this specific reason.

I'd rather see the Netherlands for their history, culture, architecture and apparent love of Canadians. Smoking would be an activity along side drinking, but not a priority.

I agree. I have an interest of going to Holland for the culture, but the whole idea that it's a po-smoker haven actually turns me off of it. I think a lot of people with professional reputations feel that way.
It's a lot like Thailand in that way. I'd love to go, but I don't like the baggage that goes along with it.

In regards to Amsterdam, I think some of you should really visit the city after this law gets passed if it does. Earlies this morning, I heard someone say what makes a great city great is the street-level experiences. This sentiment is very true with Amsterdam, being able to smoke pot only adds to the great city experience Amsterdam provides; it doesn't make it. Personally, my favourite thing to do in Amsterdam is just cruise around on a bike.
