Maurice Clarett was drafted 101st overall by Denver. Should he have stayed in college? In my opinion if he would have he probably would have been a much higher pick.

No question he kinda goofed up but he's landed in a pretty good situation going to Denver. Anyone can run the ball effectively for the Broncos so he'll look good for them. The question is - is he in shape?

Probably not, but the Broncos have a history of intolerance with out of shape players. He'll have to get in shape or he'll be out of a job.

He doesn't look to be in very good shape in the picture with this story...

Denver coach Mike Shanahan probably could turn Star Jones into a 1,200-yard back.

Denver doesn't have to rush him in. They are solid with Tatum Bell and Ron Dayne. Clarett should be considered a project.

Not true about Terrell Davis in the article.....it wasn't speed that scared teams off, it was injury history. He only played 1 full season at Georgia because of injuries. He didn't have elite speed like Portis and Bell do, but he wasn't slow by any means.
Shanahan already showing the way he works. Clarret won't be coddled. He has a chance and it's up to him to take advantage of it. The Broncos aren't going to waste their time with him if he isn't willing to work.
Still don't like the pick, but I'm at least happy at the way Shanahan has characterized it.

Geez, I forgot about Dayne...who I'm not a big fan of. They also will have Mike Anderson back....and Quentin Griffin.

Norm!

at 101 its a real low risk pick, since they lose something if he dosen't work out. Its apparent that he just wasn't ready when he had a brutal combine, and its unlikely that he'll do anything other then practice roster or at best special teams over the next few years.
But given this kids attitude, I just don't think he's going to be able to accept that. Look for him in NFL Europe or the arena league when his contract expires.

I think that he won't have as many opportunities with Denver to show what he can do. I think he will have a succesful career in the NFL, probably more of a journeyman back, with a few starting roles, than on one team his whole career, but I think he'll use the motivation to a good result, actually. I think he's finally learned and grown up.
I could be wrong, and I wouldn't be totally schocked if I was, though.

He wanted to stay in college, the NCAA wouldn't let him come back.

they didn't let him back because he was ineligible, not because they were being vindictive.
If he would have stayed eligible he could have come back.
However, there was no way he was going to do that because it would have meant going to classes something he wasn't very fond of.
