The Jameson distillery is a must, much better than the Guinness tour. At the start they'll ask for volunteers for a tasting at the end. Be ready and get your arm up quick.
It's a really great tour and everyone gets a fair bit of whiskey at the end. If you end up in the tasting you get a lot of whiskey and are able to discern between the different types.
It's 10€ and I ended up with about 10 oz. of whiskey. Got an extra glass or two at the end of the tour. Basically a steal where a pint cost 5€+ pretty much everywhere.

my parents went on the Guiness tour and said it was Disapointing. The one thing they said is a must see is any Soccer Game. They said the atmosphere was like nothing you would see at a Flames or Stamps game.
Yeah Temple Bar is cool area, though very expensive. The actual "Temple Bar" is a pretty cool place and always has great (live) music playing, there are also about 10 other pubs right around the same region, by the Quays, and they all have good music and good atmosphere to get tanked. If you like to mix in a little history Dublin Castle, Trinity College (the Book of Kells) and Christchurch cathedral are all in the same area as Temple Bar and are all worth seeing.

I was there over X-mas a few years back. Something I can think of off the top of my head that you may enjoy is going for a pint or two at "The Brazen Head Pub", est. 1198 making it Dublin's oldest pub. History and drinking all wrapped into one!
If you do end up going please be sure to tell me how it is. Apparently Boxing Day in Canada is known as St. Stephen's Day in Ireland, which is a verrrrrrry different holiday. Everything (and I mean everything) is shut down for the day so I only got as far as the front door unfortunately.

Temple Bar is awesome. For filling in the day with cultural crap, Kilmainham Gaol was super cool. Dublin Castle was OK, not the awesomest castle. Christ Church Cathedral was cool. Man you'll have a blast. Don't stay longer than 2 pints in any pub, there are too many to see!
The most popular destination for a weekend binge out of London is Prague, excellent beer and women and the cops just shovle miscreants back on the planes if they do anything to stupid.
Nothing against Dublin, it is a beautifull city but I would probably be looking to hit Venice, Naples or maybe Palermo, Ryan Air costs less than a greyhound bus if you pick up a standby.

Really? Naples is an absolute hole compared to Dublin, and this is coming from someone who's favourite country travelled is Italy. Unless your hoping to get robbed or walk through the slums I dont see the appeal.
And Venice? Maybe we're different ages but when I was in Venice I didnt see anyone under the age of 40 "partying", mostly because the rest of us couldnt afford it!
I will agree on Prague though, great spot and cheap like borscht...just have to put up with the endless mountain of pushy Russians in their ugly oversized mink coats.

I'm 50, so my Italian suggestions were not of the drunken pissant variety, and I love Naples, compared to all the rest of Italy to be frank, granted it is a slum, but a slum with style.
But if getting drunk and picking up an interesting social disease is the aim, Prague is the place.

I was pretty disappointed with the Guinness brewery. I was expecting a bunch of Oompa Loompa type dudes singing and stirring big vats and steam coming out of things and rivers of black gold.
Instead, you walk around a museum type ramp with pictures of the brewery over the years and old Guinness posters. Definitely anti-climactic.

You sure your parents didn't go to a Gaelic Football game? Soccer is probably the 4th most watched spectator sport in Ireland after Gaelic Football, Hurling and Rugby and you'd be lucky to get 2000 at a game as opposed to 82,000 at the latter stages of the 2 national sports.Only time I can think of there being a half decent atmosphere at a soccer game in Ireland is during an international.
If you like hockey then try and fit a game of hurling into your plans. Not just for the sport but the pre and post match drinks which is a significant part of any gameday .... great way to meet locals.

I thought Naples was a hole as well, rated for unpleasantness up there with secondary cities in Egypt and China. Of course, it didn't help that the local garbage collectors were on strike both times I went. When I was there in '08, the garbage piles in the street were nearly as tall as the buildings.
