First step before the Flames sign Aaron Marvin to a pro contract?

Since Neilson seems to be a stop-gap to have a warm body on the bench tonight, I hope that it's safe to assume that he won't be out long.

I'm glad to hear about Marvin. We could use him with the injuries.

What's the seriousness? Irving has had a great year and I'd hate to see him get stalled out after all that good work.

I think it will give the Flames a chance to evaluate Marvin to see if he's worth signing. From my casual perspective, he hasn't been overly impressive in College.

I believe in the Jays.
|
I dunno, the stats alone don't say anything overly nice about Marvin's time in collegiate hockey. But having never seen him play who knows... maybe they see potential in him as a checker or something. Ultimately it's just an AHL ATO and it couldn't hurt to play him in a few minor-pro games and see what he's got.

To be fair, there are NO OTHER OPTIONS available.
Keetley is injured and outside of Irving and Lamoureux, the Flames have no other pro goalies. Or goalies in North America.
David Shantz could've been signed to a try-out if they needed a longer-term body.

Ortio isn't in playoffs. Bring him over.

If Irving is missing any more games at all I'd say now that the WHL season is over at least bring in a 20 year old guy from a team that missed the playoffs on a PTO like Jeff Bosch or Mark Friesen instead of hiring a older local goaltending coach.
Nice story and all but if that situation lasts longer than 2 or 3 days it's bush league.

I think it doesn't matter. Euro's can come over and play in the AHL before they are 20. Also, Ortio's team is done for the season.

Next month, but in any case Euros can play in the AHL as soon as they are capable.

Bring him over! I'd love to see Ortio in the backup role, especially with Irving down.
Also excited to get a closer look at Marvin.

since he's not a CHL product he can play in the AHL at any age.

Thanks. I was starting to wonder what the rule on that was.
So, does that also not apply to American college players or are they required to complete their years first?

That I'm not sure of; I would be willing to bet that if the college player wanted to quit playing college hockey and turn pro he can (Kris Chucko)
USHL has had a few players that went to college and then back to the USHL. USHL players are also a exception to the 20 year old rule too since they are not CHL products. But most aren't ready at 20 years old let alone 18 to go pro.

College players can play in the AHL under 20. I believe Dipietro may have.
