Default Explosion in SE Last Night?

A random question, but since there are so many folks on this board across Calgary, I figured I would give it a shot...

Last night at around 3:00 AM there was a huge bang in the McKenzie Towne/New Brighton area. It was so loud it actually hurt my ears and some car alarms were going off too. My poor dog almost had a heart attack too. I'm pretty sure it wasn't lightning as there wasn't a cloud in the sky. My other thought was it could be fireworks, but I can't imagine anyone would be lighting one that big off at that time of night.

Did anyone else hear this or know what may have caused it? I'm sure the thread will lead to many meth house explosion jokes, so at least we'll get some comedy if nothing else.

i was at work but my wife heard a couple of loud bangs around that time and we live in acadia. Not sure if it's related cause that would have to be one hell of a "bang" to hear it from both those locales.

New Brighton is a dump. Finally sold my house there and I'm moving to Cranston. Took a bath on my house but I'm elated to get out of there. Gotta love a neighborhood that has a house with temp fencing around it that says "do not enter"

Slight update...

After talking to some neighbors it sounds like the general consensus is that some folks must have been lighting up some fireworks early in the morning. There are a bunch of parks around, so I'm sure they were lighting them off at one of them. If this was the case, they must have had some giant fire power to make car alarms go off.

Possibly dry ice bombs? They can be quite loud and have a concussion effect that would set off car alarms.

Hmmm...I have never heard of those. The thing that made me think it wasn't fireworks is that I have been to many "big firework shows" and never felt pain in my ears. And as soon as I woke up from the bang I had pain and almost a ringing in my left ear. I guess if the dry ice bombs have a concussion effect this could possibly be the cause of the pain, eh? Would there be any way to check for remnants if they were using dry ice? I'm pretty sure I can figure out easily which park the noise came from so I could do some research.

You mean percussion?

Concussion:
a : a stunning, damaging, or shattering effect from a hard blow; especially : a jarring injury of the brain resulting in disturbance of cerebral function
b : a hard blow or collision

No its concussion..unless someone was beating the original poster physically with the explosive device in question.

What? I posted the definition of concussion to show the improper use.

I think you mean overpressure. But I could be wrong.
