That is what society needs, is more people beating family members with belts.
Of course, seeing what extreme forms of abuse of this (and other types) can do, I think my perspective might be skewed towards protecting the interests of the children.
Now in this case, the kid isn't really a kid, but that doesn't suddenly make it right.
edit: Just a disclaimer, I was spanked with a belt as a kid and I don't have a problem with anyone spanking their kids at all, I just think the line between spanking and beating was crossed here.

He hit the kid in the best possible spot! If he was really trying to do damage he would have went for his back or head.
I think he did a great job of punishing the kid and showing restraint.
I was also hit with a belt as a kid and I'm thankful I was.

I'd like to know what the context of the kids virtual gangbanging is.
Have you thought that maybe the uncle was trying to protect the interests of the child.
I have no doubt that whatever the kid was doing was bad news. I have no doubt that he needed to be disciplined for whatever it was. What I do doubt is that being beaten on camera was an appropriate or properly measured response.
Since we don't know exactly what it was, we can't be sure, but as I said earlier, I would rather side with the kid if in doubt.

My opinion is that hitting someone 13 times with a belt and forcing him to post that beating online so his friends and the rest of the world can mock him for it, is not "showing restraint".
That is just my opinion though, which doesn't really matter when it comes to how anyone else raises their kids. What does matter to other people raising their kids, in Canada at least, is that you are not allowed to spank with anything else but your hand.

It's good that some parents aren't afraid to put a whoopin' on their kids these days....
What if the parent is also a police officer? Still ok then?

When it comes to keeping kids away from that stupid gangbanging life style, sometimes measures like these have to be taken.
A big part of the gangster life style is a complete disregard for authority figures.
So usually talking to these kids doesn't work, even incarceration doesn't work because jail time to a lot of these members is a right of passage.
Sometimes public shaming like this can be effective.
It wasn't a vicious beating or an abusive beating by any stretch.
If it was he would have bare skinned him, or actually not hit him on the hip.

Even if such a strict punishment was deserved, which I will concede because it isn't important to my point, it pretty clearly crossed the line between a disciplinary 'spanking' and a frustration or anger fueled 'spanking'.
When you are hitting your kids out of anger, justified or not, that becomes a beating. I think that encouraging parents to hit their kids out of anger is a bad idea.

Definitely well deserved...people are going to say if the kid got killed because of being in a gang, then the parent didnt do enough.....teach him what is right and wrong at an early age...obviosly dont beat the crap out of your kid, but that was definitely not over the line... There is too much crap on T.V and peer pressure that gives these kids a false sense of life......who else would teach discipline?
