He was looking forward to that. Now we have to return the balloons and cake.

Oh come on, don`t be such a downer, people should get excited about stuff like this. It`s not like a date with nothing but one`s and zero`s happened ten days ago or anything...

English Canada too. I was about to say the same thing.

But, while we were sleeping, it was 01:11:11 on 01/11/11, so it still counts!

Only 11:11:11 11/11/1111 counts.

Some awesome stuff happened that year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1111

Wikipedia rules, I clicked that link, then became curious what the "Holocene Calendar" is and have decided that I'm switching. Forget 2011, it's 12011!

IMHO YY/MM/DD is the way to go, because it makes sorting alphanumberically the same as sorting chronologically.

But it's nonsensical because the year comes first and that is the least vital and least specific piece of information.

MM/DD/YY is most applicable in most situations because that is how dates are spoken in the English language. When you are asked what a date is, you reply: "January 11th, 2011", not "It is the year 2011, in the month of January, on the 11th day".
