Default UN Human rights council, lol yeah...

The joke that is the UN human rights council, with members like human rights beacons Saudi Arabia

Here's a quick video showing member nations praising the kingdom for its honesty and work towards greater rights.

Here's one of Pat's best videos talking about this joke of an institution.

I've always said that the UN has become an over politicized mess where national stature is more important then the common good. The vote to deny Canada its seat at the security council is a prime example of this. The UN has been taken over by tin pot dictators and the worst human rights abusers and we allow this in the name of political correctness.

The UN is weak, it has no strength, peace keeping as a concept is dead because the UN has no resolve whatsover. Honestly waring sides should be frightened into ending their conflicts at the first sign of UN peace keepers, instead they laugh and order more bullets.

And what isn't useless is corrupt with as many senior members stuffing their pockets as possible.

At least the league of nations had the good sense to die when it couldn't live up to its mandate.

The smugness of so many posters is a bit much at times. Is the UN human rights council a joke? Sure. And I suppose mocking them distracts us from the problems (and jokes) in our own backyards.

Why ponder the causes and fallout of the Icelandic economic disaster when we can enjoy a laugh over the UN?

Why wonder why the wealthiest province in Canada can't provide decent emergency room care, or health care in general for that matter, when we can point to a whole other group of useless and ineffective bureaucrats.

Saudi Arabia is on par with Israel in terms of Human Rights so it's not surprising to see the UN praise Saudi Arabia.

The UN is a massive failure and it's just the League of Nations 2.0

One has nothing to do with the other. The UN has utterly failed to live up to its mandate and is laughable on a world scale.

So if there is a problem locally, we should not get into worldwide issues. Neat stuff.

We ponder it a lot, but we and the rest of the world know what caused the worldwide recession, maybe you missed the memo? Cause umm the same thing that happened in Iceland happened in nearly all the G20 nations, we were just too small to absorb it.

You are right, more than one issue is too much for me to bear. I'll pick one, only discuss it until its full resolution.

I hope Canada never gives in to the demand for sharia courts. I was born and raised in a country like that. The claim is that sharia will never interfere with civil matters and only applies to Muslims. That is completely untrue. Thousands of people (and people I have known) have suffered unjustly from these kangaroo courts. Sadly, I'm not even surprised anymore that the UN is cool with nations that practice traditional sharia laws.

The only nation I know of that is trying their best to rewrite the sharia laws is turkey. Really, we should be supporting nations like Turkey in their efforts to change this archaic law. In it's present, traditional form, sharia is oppressive and backward.

Damn...you're right. I'd better not watch the Flames game tonight. There are much more pressing matters in the world. To the Icelandic embassy!

I would have more respect if at least the reps at the UN were voted in at least they would represent the will of the people.

Legal elections for your rep is rule one or you are not in. If a country cant support a vote then why do these countries take part in voting at the UN now. Sorry China if your rep isnt voted in no seat at the security council for you. The UN just needs some balls for starters.
Single term limits of 4 years in an independent election in each nation audited by 3 impartial countries and no exceptions, all nations are audited.

of course I am thinking of this as I type but if this organization is not going to represent the people then what is it really there for.
