CRTC needs to step in and allow 3rd party telco and cable to use existing telus and shaw infrastructure (and rogers/bell out east) to allow competition.

Tax payers across canada built the infrastructure to begin with and grew these now private companys into money printing machines, its time we were given choice .

Al Fraken is a moron. I suggest you actually read the bill he was proposing. Hiding crap behind good intention is still crap.

The FTC recently passed regulation that will allow for traffic shaping but companies must inform users what is being shaped and they cannot promote their own services over others on their own lines.

are you kidding me mykalberta? at the time of reading the bill was not yet public as he stated. also, traffic shaping in any form should be illegal and not have been passed. period.

the NBC merger also is a terrible idea, and I'd love to hear why you think it's a good one. Perhaps without insulting Franken and having a civil discussion?

The same thing is going on here with Bell buying CTV and watching Rogers holding a gun to the head of Shaw and BEll over SN1 and who ends up paying for these deals. These providers are playing hardball with smaller distributors such as HDNET. Bell wanted to put the channel on a special theme pack whereas HDNET wanted it included for all HD subscribers, so Bell dropped it.

What? Telecomms are ridiculously cheap in the USA. It's a monopoly, not a market, problem.
