Will never ever forget Cosell making the announcement during MNF tells hoe he was shot ouside his apartmet and rushed to hospita;..."dead on arrival" then echoed for what seemed like a minute. Everyone was speechless.
That was absolutely jaw dropping and extremely maddening news. On top of all that Calgary had a snowfall from hell that day/night before and getting around was difficult. Sad sad day I will never ever forget. IIRC CKXL played nothing but Lenon tunes for the next 24 hours.

Yeah, they had the audio from the commercial break where Cossel is asking Gifford if he should share this info with the audience. 30 years ago already...wow.

I remember that day well. I was riding in the back of my dad's Volvo 240 on the way back from an appliance store when it was announced on the radio. Very sad.

On a side note, that's interesting how most people found out - through a sports announcer during a football game. Just crazy to think how much the media and access to information has changed since then.

Yup. No cell phones, no internet back then. MNF was a huge event weekly then as well and why they were the first to report it to the masses in a large way.
That game was a dog too though when the announcement was made, they were lining up to kick a winning FG...so most were still tuned in.
An absolute senseless tragedy, of all people to kill why John Lennon?
No kidding, I mean Yoko was right there with him, and not one out of the 5 shots hit her.
I know it's a day late (I think) I've been listening to Double Fantasy this morning to commemorate. Great album, as long as you skip every second song.
