Hello, I came here to ask what the differences are between AHL & WHL. I went to a couple AHL games but WHL, but I heard the WHL is fast and hard-hitting. (I have heard people refer to the WHL as The Dub, am I right?). I had hoped Edmonton would get a WHL team but it doesn't appear so.

AHL = (games I've seen)....better quality than I thought! Not skill level of NHL but entertaining stil. Emphasis on defence, shootout, I am not crazy about and I do not want the NHL to have them. Its exciting but not int he big league please.

Well personally I'd rather have the situation you have up North. Getting a chance to watch our own prospects would be much more interesting than watching junior player. That's not to take anything away from WHL hockey - I would just have more emotionally invested in watching our farm team.

I think overall there's no question AHL hockey is better. Simply because the players are more mature both physically and mentally.

AHL is pro and WHL is amateur. Thats the biggest difference. I can see that you are an Oiler fan. Did you know Edmonton had a WHL team about a half decade ago? They were the Edmonton Ice, but have since moved to Cranbrook and are now the Kooteny Ice

Any AHL team would destroy a WHL team as they are older, bigger, faster, and alot better. But the 'dub is a good league, in fact, the best league out of the CHL. But the AHL is the second best hockey league in the world.

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, just ask. There are tons of knowledgable posters on this forum

I've been to a couple games up in Edmonton, and I have to say the difference between the two from an entertainment POV wasnt what I've expected.

A lot of it probably had to do with the fact that I have a vested interest in the Hitmen, but no loyalties to the Roadrunners. It might also have to do with the fact that I spent as much money to sit in the back of Rexall as I would have to sit lower bowl in the Saddledome.

The AHL has a higher talent and experience level, but I think I'd just as soon stay with the Dub.
