Xbox 360 and storage...
SO I have had a few xbox's die so I went out and got a PS3. I like it but.... my friends all still play xbox. My wife , being a great wife, realized this and just brought me home the 4gb slim xbox with the kinect. 4gb of space is not much, especially after installing system and game updates ( for 1 game) I used 1.3 gb of space. Is there a way to connect a usb hard drive ad store updates and stuff on there or should i just bite the bullet and pay 125 or sofor the 250gb drive from xbox?

No, you need to buy the hard-drive. Microsoft being the **** they are won't allow this. Unless you buy 32GB flash drives you can't use a external hard-drive or anything, only USB sticks, and I don't even think you can use the really large ones (like the 32GB).
Edit: The biggest stick you can use is 16GB. You can use it to save profiles, etc.

You can use any USB storage device (flash drives, portable hard drives, SD card to USB adapter) but you will only be allowed to used up to 16 GB of the space on the device. You can use it for anything that the hard drive can be used (saved games, profiles, game image).

What exactly do you use the storage for on an Xbox 360? Looking at bestbuys website they have a 4GB model and for another one hundred dollars you get 250GB of storage. That's a pretty vast difference in size (and price).

If you're an infrequent user the USB solution should be fine, assuming you have some of them already lying around. Otherwise, I would think that a 80GB drive would be ample. It's easy to get dissuaded though, since the 250GB model is better value for the money.
I've installed every game I've bought, I have XBL games, hundreds of RB tunes and I still have well over 50GB of space left on my 80GB drive. Now, if you buy new games more frequently and install them, you would burn through it much quicker. I have someting like 8 disc games total, plus about 5 or 6 XBL games.

What's the advantage of installing the games? No disc needed and it loads faster I am guessing?

It's technically possible to take your old 360 hard drive out of its enclosure and put it in the new xbox. The downside being that the hard drive would be hanging off(unsupported) the connector, which has raised warranty concerns.
I believe I also read something about being able to use the hard drive transfer cable to plug the old drive to the new xbox, and it will supposedly work as a regular drive.

It also voids the warranty and is against the ToS so you run the risk of banning your console. I guarantee that MS has a way of knowing and its right on their forums that they will ban you.

Not to mention the system sounds like a jet engine when the DVD drive is always spinning. I forgot how bad it was until I played RB3 without doing the install first.
