Weird cell phone/texting issue

Has anyone had an issue where you call back a number from a text and get a wrong number?

This just happened to me, someone calls me and tells me that I asked them to call me.

I ask who they are trying to reach.

They give me a name (not me) and say I just texted them, and they have a text that says

"Hey it's ____ (Not me) call me."

They say they just clicked on the text they received to dial back the number that texted them so they couldn't have mis-dialed.


Somehow they got me, this is not a number I've ever dialed or that they've ever dialed..

Anyone ever heard of this happening? Seems very weird to me.

Used to happen to me quite a bit when I was on Telus and my fiancee was on Rogers. I'd get a text from her; but a completely different number.

So a text from her but different number? If you called that text back would it go to her or would it call that random number?

I knew that joke was coming.

I asked her later on if she had borrowed somebody else's phone, and she showed me her "sent items" on her own phone.

On other occasions I also received texts similar to the OP's. Obviously not for me, but they sound like a reply to an ongoing conversation.
