Default 2 men injured in home invasion possibly by white supremacists

http://www.calgarysun.com/news/alber.../16029931.html

Quote:
The savage beating of two men during a home invasion was the work of vengeful neo-Nazis, charge the anti-racist activists targeted in the attack.
Jason Devine, a member of the vocal Anti-Racist Action Calgary group which has clashed with white supremacist factions at rallies in the past, suffered serious bruising and cuts around the head during the attack at his home in the 5400 block of 8 Ave. S.E.
His wife Bonnie, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor in the recent election, and their four children were asleep upstairs when five masked men burst into their home and laid a vicious beating to Devine and his friend at about 1:15 a.m. Monday.
Both men were taken to hospital where Jason’s friend remains awaiting surgery for a broken arm.
“This is obviously a message,” said Devine.
“They weren’t able to bash my head in and do some serious damage, but it was still meant as a message: ‘(expletive) off, quit, leave it,’”

Pretty pathetic that these things are happening in Calgary.

As far as I am concerned (thank God for the anonymity allowed on CP I hope), if someone breaks into my home using force, I will do whatever is necessary to defend my house, family property, and would not give a damn about what the justice system refers to as "using only what force is necessary"...

With that said, there are a lot of rumblings around town that there is more to this story... Then again, you'd hate to question the story of a guy who was put through an awful experience. Regardless, this brings up the debate of what should be allowed in a Canadian home when it comes to defending yourself and your property

I would take a turn and sit outside that guys home and stand watch.

As long as Jason and his group are non violent I would back him anyday against that filth.

So would I, but I think if we started allowing people to defend themselves with guns and stuff then you'd have criminals come more prepared and bring their own guns and no one wins in a gun fight.

I'm just glad they never touched the kids and the woman in the house as that would be the most cowardly thing they could do.

Not really unless you pull out a gun and start shooting and you better hope you can get off five perfect shots in succession or else you, and your whole family is likely dead.

To be honest, I think if five guys broke in to get at me, I'd take my chances because I wouldn't expect that they were planning on letting me live.

I meant to write a disclaimer stating "if able to defend"... then again, no one know how they would react in that situation.

I got people I care about sleeping in other rooms, and I know it's the stupid thing to do... but I will go out and check to see if everyone is alright.

I just wouldn't be able to sit in my room and wonder if everyone is alright. I just couldn't. I'd rather be in danger, then one of them.

And you can bet your behind I'm not going out empty handed. No, I'm not bringing a gun... I'd rather not get into what I keep in my room.

If those guy's are wearing masks, I'd think their number one choice at that moment would be to escape. Especially if you run down screaming, "I CALLED 911!"

And if those guy's aren't wearing masks, fight. They came in knowing they were going to kill someone.

What would you do then? Curl up in a ball and cry, throw the kids at the intruders and run away? In this situation your options are pretty limited, I think I'd rather go out fighting.

Looking at the pics, I suspect this was more the result of not paying his dealer for his pot.

I might have believed this story if he was black but there's got to be more to this story since he's white.

He is pretty much the leader of the anti-racist group in Calgary and his group and the Aryan guard have clashed several times in the past.
