Elderly Nova Scotia couple wins $11 million lottery, then gives all the money away.
Pretty good story. They claim they don't need the money, and donated to family, friends, hospitals and fire departments...

So they could help others out if they won??
Hardly worth calling them "knobs", in fact it's rather refreshing and quite inspirational.

It would probably make more sense to donate their ticket-purchasing money to charity, rather than gambling it and donating the proceeds. Guess it depends on whether they actually wanted to help, or just want the lotto thrill like everyone else

To be fair, the cynicism came from one guy and everybody (rightfully) jumped on him.

I saw that story last night. Between the lottery and the old woman going through cancer treatments, I'm sure that the cancer treatments are more important to them.
What was neat was that she said that giving away the money made her feel a lot better.
Anyways a very cool story.

I also like how they shut down the people who asked for money.

Large said the couple, who took about a week and a half to come forward to claim their massive prize after their July win, received about "seven or eight" calls from people looking for money soon after news of their win circulated. Violet said they were told the money "was all used

Eh I'm gonna assume it was just a habit, had always been buying the tickets and never really considered what to do if they won.

Because old people love the $2.00 gamble
Maybe just maybe being in their 70's they figured give it to the needy rather than dying with it in the bank and not wanting their family torn to pieces on who gets the most.

It's only gambling if you don't win. If you do win, it's an investment.
